mjraves (bookscoffeeandimalesbian) | 104 comments here are my all-time favorite literary quotes, in no particular order, including an explanation of why I love these quotes and why they are so meaningful to me. know that I may interpret them in a different way than you do.

“You said I am a good man," he said. "But I am not that good a man. And I am--I am catastrophically in love with you.”
-The Infernal Devices

The Shadowhunter chronicles have so many wonderful quotes within Cassie’s descriptive and lyrical writing. What Will Herondale is saying in this particular quote encapsulates the all-too-familiar feeling (at least for me) of knowing that you don’t deserve somebody’s love, but wanting it so desperately anyway. This reminds me of personal experiences in my life, meaning it connects to me very strongly. and no, the fact that Will Herondale is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time does not make me biased

“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else's muse.
I am not a muse.
I am the somebody.
End of fucking story.”
-Daisy Jones and the Six

This is such a mood. I absolutely love this line. A man Daisy meets is talking about how she could be his muse, and this is her comeback. She is refusing to meet societal expectations for her, and wants people to know that she is important. She is the somebody.

“You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.”
-The Hunger Games

Although this Hunger Games line is short, it carries a lot of meaning that you might have to look deeper to see and truly understand for yourself. Even though we as humans often forget many things, we really can never forget the face of the person who saved our life, who made a difference to us, who gave us hope, who we love. In a book that is about a competition where people try to kill each other and be the last one alive, this line about life and hope is especially important and deep.

“As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”
-The Fault In Our Stars

John Green knows how to capture what it is like to be in love. that is all I have to say

mjraves (bookscoffeeandimalesbian) | 104 comments “Good-byes hurt the most when the other person’s already gone.”
-The Hate U Give

SO TRUE. it aches so much to know that you didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to a person in your life who meant so much to you

"Rome wasn't built on mutual admiration."

“Don’t you understand? When you’re standing on their side, you’re the bizarre genius, the miraculous hero, the force of the rebellion, the flower that blooms alone. But the second your voice differs from theirs, you’ve lost your mind, you’ve ignored morality, you’ve walked the crooked path.”

V.S “Ronan hadn't known anything about who Adam was then and, if possible, he'd known even less about who he himself was, but as they drove away from the boy with the bicycle, this was how it had begun: Ronan leaning back against his seat and closing his eyes and sending up a simple, inexplicable, desperate prayer to God:
Please.”

“Let us find the dam snack bar," Zoe said. "We should eat while we can."
Grover cracked a smile. "The dam snack bar?"
Zoe blinked. "Yes. What is funny?"
"Nothing," Grover said, trying to keep a straight face. "I could use some dam french fries."
Even Thalia smiled at that. "And I need to use the dam restroom."
...
I started cracking up, and Thalia and Grover joined in, while Zoe just looked at me. "I do not understand."
"I want to use the dam water fountain," Grover said.
"And..." Thalia tried to catch her breath. "I want to buy a dam t-shirt.”

Domitylle (can only update books rn. sorry) (dom_brlw) | 49 comments I love this quote soooo much, it makes me smile each time I read it:
" Percy was eating a huge stack of blue pancakes (what was his deal with blue food?) while Annabeth chided him for pouring on too much syrup.
'You're drowning them!' she complained.
'Hey, I'm a Poseidon kid,' he said. 'I can't drown. And neither can my pancakes.' "

Domitylle (can only update books rn. sorry) (dom_brlw) | 49 comments And I also love this one:
[Percy says sorry to Leo for having kind of abandoned Calypso and for not thinking about her to whom he had promised liberty]
"Leo was speechless. Here they were, hiding behind a wall in the middle of a magical war zone, with grenades and grizzly bears and Bronze Butt Nickettes to worry about, and Percy pulls THIS on him.
'Man, what is your PROBLEM?' Leo grumbled.
Percy blinked. 'So... I guess we're not cool?'
'Of course we're not cool! You're as bad as Jason! I'm trying to resent you for being all perfect and hero-y and whatnot. Then you go and act like a standup guy. How am I supposed to hate you if you apologize and promise to help and stuff?'
A smile tugged at the corner of Percy's mouth. 'Sorry about that.'
- Percy and Leo narrated from Leo's point of view in The Blood of Olympus
