What book is helping you to forget where you are? Share how it was able to transport you elsewhere.

Meisbres | 2 comments Reading Dance Away With Me by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. This romantic comedy is the perfect pandemic read—light, fluffy, escapist fiction

We love that--"perfect pandemic read". Hope you are able to be transported by more "perfect pandemic reads". Thank you for sharing, we have some fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips in the house cheering you on!

Jan | 1 comments I just finished the 2nd in the Kendra Donovan series by Julie McElwain. Not only do these books help me forget where I am but they also help me forget WHEN I am. Fun escapist time travel mystery series. A tough as nails FBI profiler ends up stuck in 1815 England. The book blurb says it is a like Jane Austen meeets "Alias" and this is a perfect description. Author is Julie McElwain, the book I read was A Twist in Time, but you need to start with the first one, A Murder in Time. Can't wait until the library reopens so I can get more.

Wow, that sounds like quite the enveloping book and series. That it helped you forget WHEN you are sounds absolutely perfect RIGHT now too. Thank you for sharing.
P.S. We cannot wait until we reopen either and you can get some more physical books!

Janine | 2 comments I'm almost finished with Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian. It's been the perfect escape read - all about an ice cream shop in a small town. It's summery and sweet, and kind of perfect.

That does sound sweet. It appears the eAudio is available on Hoopla (Stay Sweet-eAudio). Perhaps it is a sweet listen too.

Donna (djblock99) | 3 comments I’m halfway through Mirage by Somaiya Daud. It’s set in a distant galaxy and the culture seems to be based on maybe the Persian Empire after it’s invaded by the Roman/Byzantine Empire (except the invaders at from a different planet). The settings are beautifully and vividly described.

Mirage sounds so mesmerizing. Thank you for the recommendation. Hope the second half is as enjoyable for you as the first.

That sounds really interesting, Donna! Are you a big Science Fiction reader? I just started A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, which is set in space and while it sounds like it's completely different than Mirage, I am surprised by how much I am currently liking the space setting! It's making me want to explore more. Most of my sci-fi has a US setting (ex: Hank Green's An Absolutely Remarkable Thing).

Laura O'Kane | 1 comments I read The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It is a light historical fantasy, set in a country like France, and during a time period similar to the Belle Epoque era. With glittering high society balls, romance, and fantasy elements, it was an excellent way to escape the 2020 pandemic!

Yes, Laura, this sounds like a delightful way to escape (and across the pond to France, nonetheless)! The Beautiful Ones, as you described, does sound beautiful. Thank you for the recommendation.

Mommooshka | 5 comments Hope you're aware of the special free online reading of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone being made available during the pandemic by the Wizarding World and Spotify. Each chapter is read by a different special guest starting with Chapter One read by Harry himself, Daniel Radcliffe! The first four chapters have been posted and each narrator has been outstanding, bringing a whole new experience no matter how many times you've read it. They are fabulous for all ages, and J.K. Rowlings' amazing storytelling will transport you to the world of wizards, witches, and muggles. Enjoy!

Yes! I listened to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on what could have been a stressful road trip in late March--but turned out to be rather bonding since we listened to HP and it brings up so many good shared memories. I'll have to tune in for these special guest readings. Thank you.
