I thought we should have a thread to discuss any ideas and suggestions members might have for the group. Anything from book possiblities to new discussion threads to better methods of organization... :)

I thought of two possible discussion threads to add: one just for Idle Chat (you could pick a better name!) (Chat by the Wayside Fire? Lol! ) and one for Biographies, where we could share any biographies we may have read of the author's of early N.E.

Doreen wrote: "What about selecting one book from any early New England author for a group read?"We actually have a poll going right now to decide which book will be our first group-read. :) It ends tonight...I'll send you an invitation to vote in a second!

I just voted.
I feel like I'm jumping ahead of myself here since we just started our first group read, but actually we're almost half-way through April! Would members like to nominate the book choices for next month and then take a vote? If so I will get a thread started for the nominations in the next day or so...
It sounds like a good idea to me! (I like to plan ahead what books I'm going to be reading. I know, weird, I'm just very organized. ;D)
I guess that's a good thing! :) I'm always thinking about what I'm going to read next...the problem is I have trouble making up my mind! Lol
I'm all for it! I agree with Emma. And also if we decide now we can figure out how we're going to read it (ebook, audio book, etc.) and see if we need to put it on hold or anything.anything
Good point, Allyson! It looks like this lockdown is going to go into May now which I'm not at all happy about. I miss going to the library!
Emma wrote: "It sounds like a good idea to me! (I like to plan ahead what books I'm going to be reading. I know, weird, I'm just very organized. ;D)"Comrade!
Me too!
Planning my reading schedule is half the fun of being organized.
Whenever you see my 📚📚📚, that's why. 😄
I have nomination. We could check our local library's website
for digital books, classics are generally
available.
Great...thanks everyone! I'll plan to set it up tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing what you all nominate! :)
MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) wrote: "I don't see a poll for the May book. Am I missing something?"It should be featured at the bottom of the group homepage until it ends tonight. Here's a link that should take you directly to it. :) http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/19...
So in a couple of days it will be time to start nominations for July's group read...since July 4th will mark Nathaniel Hawthorne's 216th birthday (and also because I just acquired copies of Twice-Told Tales and Mosses from an Old Manse which I am very eager to read! 😄) I was thinking about making Hawthorne's works the theme of the month. Is that ok with everybody? 😊
Ruth wrote: "Hi Meg,Yes. That is agreeable.
Our first author's birthday month.

Thanks for the feedback, Ruth! It would be a fun thing to do. Longfellow's birthday is in February… 😊

A Wayside Birthday will be fun.😄
Meg,
Doreen wanted to read Robert Frost,
could we honor her by reading his works
in August?

Certainly! 😊
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this idea? My plan was to do the same thing we've been doing - nominations from members and then taking a vote. The only difference would be that any nominations must be a work by Nathaniel Hawthorne (or whoever we decide to honor in a given month...but I don't plan to do it this way every month).

OH Meg, a suggestion for book discussions and avoiding spoilers: how about breaking down the book of the month discussions into weekly categories? Eg. Week 1: Chp. 1-10 - and you have a separate discussion for just Week 1. The next week you could read Chps. 11-20 etc. and have a separate discussion for that. Everyone would be "on the same page". If you read ahead or get behind, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. One could catch up if late or take down notes it ahead.Just a thought! If you don't think that would work, that's fine too!

I'm still learning how to be a moderator...lol!! We've done things a little differently with each group read discussion so far, depending on what it was. It would be nice to be more organized. 😊

Your new. Welcome to the group!
