1. This book took place during a time of transition in English society, from Victorian to modern norms. How do we see that tension arise in the book?

2. The idea of it being a small world pops up at a few different points. Have you ever had a small world experience while traveling?

3. England and Italy both get a fair bit of description and the book takes place more or less 50% in each country. What do you think of how the shift in both characters and setting relate?
