Kath Lau (kath_reads) I think I'll be reading David Levithan's Boy Meets Boy.

Beth I'm considering Looking For Alaska by John Green

That's a good one.

message 5: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidi28) I'm going for The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie

message 6: by Meryl (new)

Meryl Hebb | 13 comments I think I'll do Looking for Alaska as well. I've been wanting to read it for a while.

Anne (texanne) Beth wrote: "I'm considering Looking For Alaska by John Green"

Ooh, I have that one relatively near the top of a pile because a friend left it here after she finished it.

message 8: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (mindyej) Here's a good resource I found: http://www.bookmarket.com/debutnovels...

I'm leaning toward "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks

Daneil Newcomb | 33 comments Kath wrote: "I think I'll be reading David Levithan's Boy Meets Boy."

It's a cute story!

message 10: by Neptunalia (new)

Neptunalia (wxguesser1800) Does Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll count? I know that Carroll had some scientific / mathematical publications and an opera published prior to Alice, but Alice seems to be his first novel.

Great choice. It's a wonderful book. Thank you so much for that link, too!

message 12: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 65 comments I'm thinking Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

message 13: by Julia (last edited Oct 21, 2015 09:23PM) (new)

Julia (_mj_howard) | 57 comments I read "Outlander (Outlander, #1)" by Diana Gabaldon and loved it.

Ann Here is a good link on debute books by popular female authors

message 17: by Juanita (last edited Feb 18, 2015 06:17AM) (new)

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments I've been wanting to read this one. Now I have a good reason. Junot Diaz's first novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, won the Pulitzer Prize in 2008.

message 18: by Jane (new)

Jane (javc) I think this would be a good time for me to finally read Wuthering Heights.

message 19: by Belinda (new)

Belinda (belindalt) | 99 comments I'm thinking about Slammed for this prompt, I've never read a book by Colleen Hoover but I keep hearing great things about them so I'm looking forward to reading this.

message 20: by Wenyi (new)

Wenyi | 6 comments I did Songs of the Humpback Whale by Jodi Picoult.
Have always loved her books. This is just as good as her other books.

message 21: by Luella (new)

Luella I'm considering the Sun also Rises by Hemingway.

message 22: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Johnson (michellecurates) | 85 comments Adria wrote: "Does Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll count? I know that Carroll had some scientific / mathematical publications and an opera published prior to Alice, but Alice seems to be his f..."

I did something similar with The Bell Jar. It wasnt the first thing she wrote but it was her first novel. (And last.) We can interpret these however we want and that's how I did.

I liked it. It was beautifully written. Quick read, too.

message 23: by Jana (new)

Jana | 22 comments I read Anne of Green Gables. Although it might be not very popular now, it was very popular before in Canada and Japan (maybe other countries too?). Now it is a hidden gem of a classic. Definitely recommend.

message 24: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I read Breathe by Abbi Glines.

A favorite in our house. Been read multiple times and laughed over and discussed more times than I can count.

message 26: by Juanita (new)

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments I just finished The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams for this prompt. It was my book club's pick for June. I kind of hated it but I'm not a big sci fi reader (love movies/TV with sci fi themes ironically).

message 27: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I read Still Life by Louise Penny.

message 28: by Guylian (new)

Guylian I read Jhumpa Lahiri "The Namesake".

message 29: by Alexis (new)

Alexis O (saboknits) | 76 comments I read Edith Wharton's first novella, The Touchstone. One decision can mold a man into a completely different person. This novella is all about how his inner turmoil shapes him, maddens him, and how he realizes that he is changed by a decision that he never imagined would impact him so strongly. In the The Touchstone, Edith Wharton beautifully illustrates the conflict Glennard faces in trying to forgive himself.

I thought about using that book until I found out that NS had a book published years before The Notebook. He coauthored Wokini.

I was going to read Mary Higgins Clark's first book, but I changed my mind. I'm now reading C.S. Lewis' first book, Spirits in Bondage: A Cycle of Lyrics, which is a book of poems. It's short, so I'll soon be finished with it.

message 31: by Sierra (new)

Sierra (sjones166) | 13 comments For this category I read Kevin Kwan's first book "Crazy Rich Asians" (It's really good!). In my opinion he has become quite popular since the release of his second book not too long ago.

message 32: by Mack (new)

Mack (reikidoula) I know that she wrote plays beforehand, but would Maya Angelou's first book be considered I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings? That's one I've never read but always wanted to.

message 33: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I think it would count, @Ahavah. (Beautiful name!)

message 34: by Mack (new)

Mack (reikidoula) Thank you so much, on both accounts! <3

message 35: by Tori (new)

Tori | 11 comments Go Set A Watchman. Still not sure how I feel about the book.

I didnt love it. I was hoping to but didnt. I live in singapore, as an aside. LOL

message 37: by Malgorzata (new)

Malgorzata (therealmadmags) | 24 comments I've just started reading Stephen King's "Carrie". Not sure how that happened, but I've never read it before.

message 38: by Melody (new)

Melody | 211 comments For this prompt, I read A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes by Stephen Hawking. Although he had published academic papers before, this was his first book. It definitely lives up to the hype. Even though many of the ideas such as the uncertainty theory and string theory have advanced since the publication of this work, Stephen Hawking's unique and entertaining voice make it definitely worth a read.

message 40: by Kerryann (new)

Kerryann Franklin | 61 comments I've just finished To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee
