I bought The Ocean at the End of the Lane (Neil Gaiman) on a friend's recommendation, so that will probably be my pick.

I just read Everything I Never Told You based on a friend's recommendation here on GoodReads. Sad but beautifully written.
I read "Tipping the Velvet" by Sarah Waters and fair to say it was an eye opener in all aspects, and the story was riveting.
Chanel Bonfire by Wendy Lawless or Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. Both were brought by friends to a book swap party.
A friend sent me The Darling by Russell Banks a few years ago so I will read that one for "a book recommended by a friend".
I read Made from Scratch: Discovering the Pleasures of a Handmade Life. It was recommended by my friend and her sister, so it was a double recommendation :) It was lovely. Jenna Woginrich writes about homesteading and taking steps towards living a more sustainable lifestyle. She writes with so much heart, and with my own dreams to start a farm, it was a very inspiring read for me.
Just finished Jan Weiler "Das Pubertier". Very funny little book about a father's challenges with his child in puberty.
I'm going to be reading American Bloomsbury: Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau: Their Lives, Their Loves, Their Work by Susan Cheever which a friend not only recommended but also bought for me on Kindle.
I just finished The Fountainhead and I'll save you the time. Dont.I only read it because it's my husband's favorite and he had been telling me to read it for years. Now I can say I read it. (In the past he steered me to Lonesome Dove which I LOVED so I was trusting him...LOL.)

I'm thankful my father would've never have recommended that to me. Every book my dad ever recommended were science fiction and I loved them all.
Dune - Frank Herbert The friend that recommended that to me LOVES that book. It's definitely one of her all time favorites.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children ( which is peculiar, and was recommended by my sister in law, but then she likes the twilight books !)

I loved the pictures in it though. To me, that was the best part of the book. It ALMOST made me want to read the next one. (But not quite.)
I read The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure. It was chosen by a friend for our book club- wonderful novel!!
Everything I Never Told You was a great recommendation. It has all the feels so it could also be used for prompt #38 a book that made you cry. Suicide is not an enjoyable thing but it was a deeply moving & touching story.
A couple of friends recommended Outlander by Diana Gabaldon quite some time ago. In fact, I had a boss who recommended it to me in about 2010 and I only just got around to it. Not the best book ever, quite brutal at times, but a very entertaining story. I listened to the audio book narrated by Davina Porter and enjoyed her performance. I will very definitely read more from this series.
Just finished reading American Bloomsbury: Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau: Their Lives, Their Loves, Their Work

A friend and I were visiting our other friend in Kentucky. I wanted her to read Fangirl and so she brought a book she wanted me to read: A Wonderlandiful World by Shannon Hale. So we took our books, went to a tea shop, and read. Then we went to a bourbon tasting, after which we returned to the tea shop and continued to read. I thought A Wonderlandiful World was quite cute, but I think she liked Fangirl even more than I liked her recommendation.I read quite a few books this year that were recommended to me by friends, but the urgency of this recommendation convinced me to count A Wonderlandiful World for this challenge.
