Our first book for the No Place Like Home online book discussion will be The Gown by Jennifer Robson. We can post questions and conversation here on goodreads but we will also host a live book discussion via zoom on May 6 at 2:30 pm. We hope you will join us both here and on zoom!

Tania | 2 comments I typically really enjoy historical fiction, but this was very slow for me. I also find myself drawn to books with strong female friendships, but this one seemed a little too perfect.
If you enjoy the royal family and historical fiction, you may enjoy
The Other Windsor Girl: A Novel of Princess Margaret, Royal Rebel
by Georgie Blalock. I read that just before reading this one and enjoyed it quite a bit more. I happened to watch The Crown on Netflix at the same time. It was a funny coincidence. I recommend both.
If you are drawn to books about female friendships that span decades, then perhaps you will enjoy The Air You Breathe by Frances de Pontes Peebles, City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert, and My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. I liked each of these, but City of Girls was my favorite read of 2019!

I don't usually read historical fiction but this didn't read like that for me. I agree that the female friendship part of the story seemed wasn't as in depth as I might have liked.
Overall, I liked it but I wasn't blown away by the story or the writing.

Ha! Ha! Right? Like these women never had a problem? The supervisor was so kind and understanding. There were no petty jealousies in the workroom? Please! LOL
