What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I know that this is a book series that is in the dystopian genre. In the first book it talks about how these people live in a society where it is run by women because all the men are gone by a certain age. Until one of the main characters (a boy) doesn't get picked up or disappears. Their society is surrounded by a huge wall. Thats all I can remember from the first book.
But I know that as the series goes own the main characters learn that their whole society was an experiment and another on similar was happening too, but in the other one it was the women disappearing.
