What books are you reading in this category? What recommendations do you have?

I would recommend the Inkworld series or The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. They were originally written in German.

I was thinking of Anna Karenina. My sister really liked it and we tend to have the same taste in books. It's not one I would normally read so it would go towards my goal of branching out for the challenge.

I'm either going to read Vicomte de Bragelonne originally written in French or The Coronation originality written in Russian. I can definitely recommend books by both Alexandre Dumas and Boris Akunin for this challenge.

I was thinking I was going to read The Alchemist. It was originally written in Portuguese. However, now that I've seen Kerri's message about The Thief Lord, I may pick that. Not only does it fit with this category, it's also found in my library at the middle school I work with and it would be awesome for me to be able to recommend it to some of my students!

I read The Thief Lord this past November and I highly recommend it. I initially read it because it takes place in Venice, Italy, a place I've wanted to visit for years. It's a great story for everyone, not just kids.

I was thinking of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.... But I've started it before and couldn't get into it, so unsure.

As a German I can recommend Cornelia Funke as well, although I can't use her for this one. :)
I think I am going with Carlos Ruiz Zafón for this one, since I am still missing his newest novel.

I could find any number of books translated from English to Finnish in the attic, I guess that counts?

That's good to know (I didn't) and I have only read the first in the series.

I think I may read Love in the Time of Cholera. It was originally written in Spanish.

I read Anne Frank's Diary for this challenge

I recommend Ruby Red. It was originally written in German. It is also the first book in a trilogy so you could also use it for this catagory. As I am from Austria i can`t use this one but nearly every other book i read.

I'm thinking of reading The Alchemist too. I've already read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and loved it, but it is slow to start and takes a while to get into.

For this challenge I have read "Untreue" (Adultery) by Paolo coelho, originally written in Portuguese.

Just read The Room by Jonas Karlsson. Short & funny. I would recommend it.

I am planning to read One Hundred Years of Solitude. I haven't read any of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's work and it has been a goal of mine to change that.

I read "Thérèse Raquin" by Émile Zola, and loved it.

I've already read a few translated books but have counted them for other prompts. For this one I was thinking maybe I Am a Cat, by Natsume Soseki, originally written in Japanese; or La Bâtarde d'Istanbul, by Elif Shafak, originally written in Turkish.

I read The Boy in the Suitcase by Lene Kaaberbøl, originally written in Danish.

I intended to read Anna Karenina, but that book is going to take me some time. Instead, I read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing which was originally written in Japanese.

I ended up putting any of the books from the Precious Stones Trilogy by Kerstin Gier.

I read I'm Not Scared by Niccolo Ammaniti. Translated from Italian by Jonathan Hunt.

I read A Man Called Ove by Swedish author Fredrik Backman. It was so, so good. I highly recommend it!

"The Three Musketeers". It was originally written in French.

I just finished The Little Paris Bookshop, published in Germany in 2013 and just released in English in America in 2015. Really enjoyed it.

I read The Beauty and the Sorrow by Peter Englund, which is a look at WWI through people's diaries and such, for this prompt. It was originally published in German.

I also read The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery, which was originally published in French.

I read the inferno by Dante, I've always wanted to read it so that was an easy choice.

Would the book the dinner work for this?

I believe The Dinner was originally written in Dutch (if you are referring to the novel written by Herman Koch), so unless your first language is Dutch, the book would qualify I would think.

I just finished The Elegance of the Hedgehog a couple of minutes ago. It was actually recommended by a friend a couple of years ago too. It was lovely and caught me by surprise.

For this prompt, I read The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende, which was originally published in Spanish as El Amante Japonés. I'd never read a book by Allende before, and I was pleased by the great quality of her writing.
