Greetings, and welcome to the group. Please take a minute to introduce yourself, and share a bit about what appeals to you about this challenge.

I'm Anne, a librarian in the great Pacific Northwest. I'm excited about this challenge because it will push me to read a lot of books outside of the genres I've been spending a lot of time with the last few years (predominantly YA). Looking forward to a year of good books!

message 2: by Page (new)

Page (victriviaqueen) | 47 comments I'm Cheryl, a library staffer on the Canadian side of the Pacific Northwest. My goal in this challenge is to find as many books as possible on my own shelves. I buy/gather books so constantly that my "to read" list is always overflowing.

I'm already noting possibilities on a spreadsheet so I don't forget which category I wanted to file something under. Some categories look far too easy to fill, others will offer a challenge, but I'm up for it! I doubt I will make it through 52 books, but you never know.

I'm taking notes too! It's not like I can order everything from the library now, haha Michael is full of suggestions, so I'm taking notes for future reference.

Pavithra Paulraj | 1 comments Hi.. This is Pavithra Paulraj from India.. I am a banker by profession. Apart from reading, my interests include traveling, watching movies and plays, running, etc.

I have made a list of "To do Read" for 2015 and my target is to read atleast 25 books the next year.

message 5: by Denise (new)

Denise Lauron (dlauron) I'm Denise, a radiation therapist in northern California. I keep busy with my two daughters and trying to keep active. I have decided I will try to read more this year.

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Davis (ginnywoolf) Hello! I'm a library science graduate student at Clarion University and live in the Philly suburbs. I am a freelance writer and editor. I finally achieved my reading challenge goal this year (to read 52 books) so I feel motivated to tackle another one. Looking forward to reading with you all.

Becky K I'm Becky, a medical secretary in Michigan. I have 2 young adult sons that I've challenged to also complete this list.

Aside from reading, my free time is spent knitting and with photography. I read a little of everything, and have a lot of books on my shelf and Kindle just waiting for me to decide it's their turn!My goal is to try and fulfill this list with as many books I already own as possible... (Maybe even twice)

Here's my shelf!https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I have almost all of the categories covered, just 13 left to choose...

message 9: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 26 comments Hi, I am a Pre-K teacher in Texas. Now that I have finished Graduate School, I'm hoping to be able to read more books just for pleasure. It seems like all of my reading lately has been textbooks or books for 4 year olds!

message 10: by Natália (new)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) Hey,I'm Natalia, I'm a med studant in Brazil. So, I decided to do this challange to push myself into reading more. I love reading, but since I started college, I haven't been able to read as much as I used to (well, textbooks and cientific articles don't count).
I read basically YA, science fiction, fantasy, mistery and thrillers, but I'm looking foward to read other genres too, so I'm definetly excited to do this challange.

message 11: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Hi! I'm Kathy. I am a Special Education teaching assistant in Illinois. I like to read and work out. I am hoping to read as many of my unread books as possible this year before I buy more books.

message 12: by Amanda (last edited Dec 29, 2014 07:42AM) (new)

Amanda (amandabookworm) I am the daughter of a career librarian and a self-confessed bookworm. I always have a book I am reading. I am a special education major with a husband in pharmacy school and we have four kids. I am looking forward to getting out of my reading "comfort zone" by reading books in as many categories as I can.
P.S. I'm from Alabama!!

message 13: by Allisen (new)

Allisen Shawver (allisenshawver) | 1 comments My name is Allisen and I am a working wife and mother to 3 young boys (9,7,6). I absolutely love reading, but have started working more, which has left me with less time to read. I am hoping that this challenge will help me get back into the habit of reading, while also opening my horizons to other genres and authors.

I am pretty sure I will not get to read 50 books this year, but I do hope to rekindle my love for reading. Glad to be part of this group!

message 14: by Raymunda (new)

Raymunda (raymundaj) Hello! I'm Taide from Barcelona. Nice to meet you all.
I'm approaching this challenge in a different way. I will choose the books I'll be reading without thinking about the categories, and then see if it fits into one of them. And see how many I've checked by the end of the year!
Also looking forward to reading about the books the other members choose and share, in order to discover new reads for myself.

message 15: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Hello. My name is Melissa from Massachusetts. I saw this list posted on Pinterest and decided to look for a group on Goodreads that would be following it. I'm really looking forward to push myself to read books I may not have picked if it were not for the list. Happy reading!!

Wow. I went away for a couple of days, and the group has grown and we have members from all over.

Welcome! I'm looking forward to starting my first book of the challenge soon, and seeing what all of you will be reading!

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah K Hello, my name is Sarah and I'm from Ohio. In 2014, I redisovered a used bookstore chain called Half Priced Books and began to rebuild my personal library. This year my personal goal is to begin reading all the books I purchased this past year. I'm hoping that joining a group through Goodreads will keep my honest to this goal. I also love hearing what other people have to say about books and hearing others suggestions about what to read next.

message 19: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Clevenger (clevengerjo) Hi everyone. My name is Joanna and I am from Southern California (the inland empire to be more specific). I am a junior at CSUSB and I am an English major (literature and linguistics). Although I don't have too much time to read during the quarter I am constantly reading in my free time. I love the list that this group is working off of, I feel that it will push me out of comfort zone which is something I need to do more often.

message 20: by Bookish (new)

Bookish (bookishwench) Hi! I'm Marie.

I've loved books and reading since I was a child. My parents were both big readers, so it seemed natural for us kids to join in. We moved often, but our first family outing was always to the public library to get our cards.

I love mysteries - in fact, I read them almost exclusively. Sometimes I branch out because of a drought in my holds, sometimes because I've heard some great buzz about a book.

I work in a public library, so it's like putting a vampire to work in a blood bank. I have a massive book bag; needs must.

I'm looking forward to participating in this group because it will push me to read beyond my favorites. I'm looking for surprises and gems.

Here we go!

message 21: by Amanda (new)

Amanda McGill Hi everyone! I'm Amanda and I'm a Project Analyst in Toronto, ON. I'm a huge NFL fan and I love running and travelling, especially to warm places!

I'm really looking forward to doing this challenge and to expand my reading horizons and to knock some books off my to-reads!

message 22: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnoftheread) Howdy! I'm Dawn, friend and coworker of Marie and Anne. I'm looking forward to having a little more reading free time next year and like a good challenge :D

message 23: by Gregory (last edited Dec 30, 2014 03:29PM) (new)

Gregory | 3 comments Hi, I'm Greg. I've loved reading since a was a little boy, but the past few years I haven't had time to read as much as I would like. I came across this list, and figured it would be a fun way to read more this year!

I am a full time draftsman, and I live in Lake Havasu City.

message 25: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenmarie1117) | 19 comments Hi, I'm Jennifer in Northern California. I am the only one of my friends crazy enough to try to do this list, so I'm excited to join!

I have managed to figure out half of the books I plan to read/buy. Most I have but some I'm stuck on.

To add to this challenge, I'm currently in grad school studying speech therapy, I work full-time providing therapy for children with autism, and am married. The most I've ever read since doing a Goodreads challenge is 50 when I didn't have school, so it'll be interesting to see who picks what.

message 26: by Cathrin (last edited Dec 30, 2014 08:09AM) (new)

Cathrin Hi, I'm Cathrin and I'm from Germany. I am a physician. Reading is on of my favourite hobbies. I am pretty sure I will not be able to fulfill every single point on the list but I will try nontheless.

message 27: by Nichelle (new)

Nichelle Crocker I'm Nichelle from Phoenix, which autocorrect just tried to change to Pjoenix. Either way, hi. I miss the social aspect of talking with fellow readers along with the fun of discovering great books. And people. And new spellings for my city. This should be fun.

Ariel (stariel) | 26 comments Hi, I'm Ariel. I live in Seattle, WA and I'm a scientist and research analyst. I found out about this group on Twitter and thought it sounded interesting. Then I came up with a crazy idea...

I'm going to try to do the list using only books with vampires in them. (Any vampire character is good enough.)

I think I can do it, but a few of the categories will be tough. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

I love this plan!! At the University of Victoria there is a professor who teaches about vampires and as a result the library has almost every piece of vampire fiction and film ever created, so if you start hitting a wall I can see what I can find.

I don't seem to be able to add to that document, Ariel -- set to view only I suspect. I was going to suggest Vampires in the Lemon Grove -- short stories by Karen Russel which was a Pulitzer prize finalist -- not sure you'll find a "winner" for that category with a vampire, so that at least is close!

Thanks! I fixed the sharing. Also, Vampires In the Lemon Grove was on my "To Read" list anyway, so that's a great suggestion. Thanks!

message 38: by Mikan (last edited Jan 01, 2015 03:50AM) (new)

Mikan (mikancchi) | 7 comments Hi, I'm Mikan from Indonesia, a business management student. I always like reading since I was kid, especially because my parents believe buying their kids books are better than buying them toys. I mainly read fantasy, mystery, and detective genre. Sadly, I haven't read much since these past few years. I don't know why, my endurance in reading seems to decrease a lot. What used to be half a day to finish a book, now needs weeks, even months. I hope joining a reading challenge will help me back to my reading habit. Plus, this book challenge seems interesting (though I'm not even sure I can find a book that takes place in my small hometown, but alas).

Hopefully I can manage crossing this list at the end of the year. Even half is good enough.

Nice to meet you all! xD

message 39: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Hi, I'm Jenni. I live in South Carolina. I got my love of reading from my parents and hope to instill that love in my kids. I prefer to read mystery, suspense and action/adventure.

Books 92 (books92) Hi! I'm Ceisha from Missouri. I am in my last semester at college and reading is something I absolutely love doing. I've seen this challenge passed around Pinterest and Tumblr, and I wanted to participate because it is hard for me to decide what to read sometimes. I also enjoy reading things outside of my normal picks, so this list will help me pick more books! I enjoy reading everything - from YA fantasy to historical nonfiction to cookbooks and mystery novels.

Welcome everyone and Happy New Year! I really like the tone this group is taking - I hope you all enjoy your time here.

message 43: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 1 comments Hiiiii everyone. I'm Lindsay. I live just across the Puget Sound from Seattle. I have always loved to read growing up but more recently have found myself making the time to did and read in my down time. I have to admit that I have a book buying addiction. I was given an iPad so I could read books on it but found missing feeling the pages and that's where I discovered my love for hundred of books on top of books, on top of books all on bookshelves.

I wouldn't say I have a favorite genre of books. I've more recently been reading romance novels, which I never thought I would enjoy. It started with YA romantic novels. But I jump around with genres from fantasy to memoirs.

My sister in law told me about this particular reading challenge, she saw it on Facebook. I was happy to see it here where I could discuss and get ideas from a group.

Can't wait!

message 44: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 22 comments Hi I'm Nicole. I work for my grandpa in our family business as a secretary. I have always loved reading. I also enjoy writing, crafting, and watching old movies.

I wanted to join the group to get out of the box a bit. I'm excited to read some books outside of what I would normally choose. Look forward to having some fun with this challenge. :)

message 45: by Zsuzsa (new)

Zsuzsa | 12 comments Hi Everyone, I am Zsuzsa, from Hungary. I am currenty working in customer service, but previously i worked as a languague teacher. Apart from reading I knit a lot, mainly while listining to audiobooks. I hope that will count as reading in the group..

Long ago I followed a reading challange for seasons, with similar tasks, I enjoyed it a lot, so now I am excited to read new to me authors and genres.

message 46: by Larissa (new)

Larissa (laracvanti) hello, I'm Larissa, from Brazil. I am working on, through, sideways on my PhD and all that academic reading is fairly tiring. Therefore, I have joined the group and the challenge so my mind can get a break.

I am open to suggestions =)

message 47: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Johnson (andiebrarian) Hi, I'm Andrea. I'm a youth librarian in the Chicago suburbs. The challenge looks like fun, and I'm pleased it doesn't require specific titles. I often have difficulty with things like this since I read so many children's and YA books professionally. It can be tough to fit in enough "grown-up books" to finish most reading programs. I like that this one is open-ended enough that I should be able to include some of my youth books, and it will still encourage me to diversify my reading.

Hi Larissa! As people begin posting their books in the various threads, you'll start to see books you might like to read. You can also post a "Help!" post in any category that you're stuck on.

Cheers!

message 50: by Mary (new)

Mary Purcer | 6 comments Hello my name is Mary and I am a book club junkie. I've even gone so far as to join one that doesn't serve wine at meetings! There is just something about reading and discussing a book that brings me great joy. I'm currently in three groups, which COULD mean three books a month - except sometimes they are reading the same titles. Then there are always those other recommendations that friends and family, or titles that come across my desk, or books that teach me something I need to know. I'm game to try for 50 plus in 2015.
