Review Group discussion

Due to the extremely slow uptake in this group, I have taken the decision to change it to a 'general' group.

In joining this group you have agreed TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.
If you don’t agree to that tell me now so that I can find another member who will do so.

Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:

Oh, good! I just finished up another group and I'd love to join another. My book's not "Clean" though. Can I join this group? I left reviews for everyone but Rain Julia in the last one, so I think my duty there is discharged...

I'd like to join too, if this group is general. My novels have some sex/violence, but not too graphic nor frequent.

Sean and I have already reviewed one another's work, and I reviewed Pricila, in Group 55, I think. I'll be finished with my Round 4 review in Group 59 within the next couple days.

Can you hold on Chance and John ( and anyone else who wants to join a general group) for the other people who signed up to a clean group to reply. They have the right to be in the 'clean' only group they signed up to if they wish.
If I don't hear from them by Saturday, I'll start another general, and anyone in this group who wishes to move, can do so.

This is Book 4 of the series that started with Raingun --- but, it doesn't rely on knowing previous versions very much. The three-sentence blurb sort of prepares the reader for what's going on --- at least, that's what I intended!

Florian has already reviewed Raingun. Emma was the moderator of my previous (and first) Review Group --- IIRC, I didn't review any of her books.

I am amazed that we have gotten started so quickly! Well done folks.

For those receiving reviews, it is the custom in this group to ignore our "feelings" (exaggerating) EXCEPT in the case of "spoilers." Other than that, we all know what it is to "play nice and play fair."

I'm sorry --- I seem to have hit a snag with reading the MOBIs. It used to be easy on my PC with Windows 7 --- I would just drop the MOBI files in the appropriate directory --- but it seems that upgrading to Windows 8.1 has made it hard to do that. I'm trying to e-mail the files to the appropriate e-mail addresses to get it into my old Paperwhite (or the PC); I did this maybe half an hour ago, and they haven't showed up yet.

As it happens, I have Azardi so I can read EPUBs and PDFs; I hope to work things out with the MOBI files but enough time has gone by that I'm starting to get nervous.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Hi John, Does this mean that you already have the free kindle app (for PC, Tablet, Phone) and it does not work? If you don't have it then I suggest you do download it from Amazon, as it works well with Windows 8. If you have it then it is possible to copy/paste the mobi file to your Paperwhite of course.

I generally avoid getting involved in discussions of a technical nature, BUT--

a. Callibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/) is free software that converts most formats. Yes, it works on Win 8.1.

b. Kindle users are given (can get) a kindle email address to which to send files in any format (e.g. doc, pdf, epub) and get them back in (Amazon) mobi. This is the only use for those email addresses.
