Ahoy hoy Welcome to Sarah's aka Pippy's Corner. I was using Goodreads when it was through Facebook, then it wandered off into it's own special dimension. Which makes it feel more complete I think.

Anyhoot I have the name Pippy which I use to geek out playing a MUD Game (for those that are not sure it is a Multi-User Dungeon or Dimension) Essentially it is a pure text based game based on Terry Pratchett Discworld. I have been playing this on and off since 2002 and Pippy was the first character I created. Why do I play this for so long? Well I get to wander around Discworld we have Ankh-Morpork to visit as well as Hillshire and the counterweight continent, not to mention the Discworld characters you come into contact with. Back in the 1990's Terry Pratchett gave permission to re-create Discworld in a text based playable form, nearly 20 years later it is still going. Even though I have been playing this for so long there are still many things that make me giggle whilst playing it and things I have still to discover. It is Vast!

I thought I couldn't think of anything to write about myself so I have taken the "about me" section of my Profile, a very small portion is a little outdated but otherwise it is pretty much spot on.

I adore books, I like to look at them, I like to smell them, I love to read them, and I like to collect them.

I would dearly like to write a book, alas I know not how, and to be honest I probably lack the dedication and imagination to fulfil this desire.

I do not have a preference of genre, however looking through my shelves I would say it's safe to assume (yes I am making an ass out of u & me) I lean more towards the fantasy genre. This in no means rules out any other genre and I always am happy to hear other folks suggestions and recommendations.

I used to only be a bed reader (sounds vaguely like an affliction) and on occasion when I am desperate to know what is going to happen, a chair reader. Though since I figured out I could save £200 a month by taking the bus to work my reading has increased somewhat. Not always the best idea to read in public especially when I find a particularly emotional point in a book and start venting my emotions for all to see then I become the weirdo that everyone avoids sitting next to. (we all have our crosses to bear)

I dream of having a house with every wall lined with books or a little snug library, alas the numbers have not aligned correctly and I have to be content with, my need to keep in hard format, using a e-reader to find more need to keep in hard format and the read & pass on for others to enjoy.

Oh and I do judge a book by it's cover; if it pleases me I will buy it even if I never read it. (I will however buy a different format and read that)

Books I recall from childhood and school I will always search for the cover I remember and I dislike immensely when a book has been made into a film/TV series when they change the cover to that. Not on!

I initially set myself 60 books to read in 2014, I then lowered it to 50 when I knew I wouldn't make it. But still pleased with the fact I have read so this many.

I seemed to have acquired some books leading up to the holiday period. Strange how they all ended up in my possession when I was supposed to be buying presents for others. :P

Whilst I was buying some Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith 's as gifts. I happened to spot two books The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman & The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson (original cover art not the film version) Though I really enjoyed watching the film the other day) I already have digital copies of them, not the same as the real thing and I loved reading them so naturally they happened to fall mysteriously into my shopping basket (aka my arms). Then I was out with a Friend catching up whilst she was doing some last minute gift shopping when we were accosted in the local book store by a author promoting his book Winston and the Canny Lass by Barry Stone Very lovely man who was offering to sign his book, the story sounded good so I got a copy and he signed this to myself and my three dogs. My friend made hers a gift for her husband. Perhaps I should have thought of that but mysteriously my husbands name somehow translated in writing to my name. Then we were in a charity shop and I noticed something a little different The Poison That Fascinates by Jennifer Clement story seemed interesting enough but it was the fact it is a Uncorrected proof copy. I might see if I can find the corrected copy to see how much they differ. On Christmas eve My Mother is doing the usual rounds dropping off the Christmas pyjamas for everyone and brought me The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty , which I bought her for her birthday amongst others, but I had mentioned I would like to read this. Finally Christmas day arrived and I could open my Secret Santa gift The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman which winged it's way from Houston, Texas, by the probably not so happy postal elves at this time of year. xx

The Past

Last year we started our ongoing A to Z Challenge.....this year let's start a new challenge, reading a book from the past 11 decades, beginning in 1900, and ending in 2009....

There are no rules, and no time limit to this.....the idea is to re-discover and enjoy books from the past, hopefully finding some forgotten gems, and getting to know some great 'gone but not forgotten' authors....and share your discoveries with our Bookaholic members....

I'll give a couple of examples from each decade, but I'm sure everyone will discover their own past masterpieces.

You can start your own topic under in the 'Read The Past' folder, or include these reads in your Challenge/Reading Logs......
