NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11270 comments This is an enjoyable sci-fi/fantasy book about a woman whose memory was taken from her, and her attempts to find and save her people. She falls in love with Kjell (from book 1), the man who saved her life. I really liked the way that they each discovered they were more than they thought they were. This is a sequel to The Bird and the Sword, and I recommend reading the books in order. 3.5 stars, rounded up (for now).

The writing is beautiful, but the prose isn't as creative and poetic as the first book. The female character in this book is more complicated and the romance is a tad more mature (still very clean). I really liked the addition of a new land, with intelligent trees. (I seem to be attracted to both fiction and non-fiction books about trees this year.)

Quite a few people gave it a science-fiction tag (which is why I picked it for this month), though admittedly it's stonger on the fantasy side. It's set in a fantasy world on land (not space).

Audio note: The (male) audio performance was very good, but I preferred the (female) narrator in the first book.
