A guess - My Darling Caroline by Adele Ashworth?

Cynthia, what do you remember about the meeting her father arranges?

message 3: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Gerdik | 7 comments Not too much except it was a deliberate meeting and by the end of the book little sister figures it out that father had masterminded the daughter and rogue.

Cynthia Gerdik | 7 comments It was a deliberate meeting masterminded by father, younger sister firures it out by end of book. The daughter would do math in her head during meals father allowed her to keep estate books ect. I have read the book above and it is similar but not the one. Thanks for the suggestion.

Another guess where the heroine is very good at mathematics - In For a Penny by Rose Lerner?

Cynthia Gerdik | 7 comments I think in for a penny is it. Thank you, this has been wonderful, my first time to be on this site.

Glad we could help. If it's not the right book, please come back and we'll give it another go. :)

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments If you think there's a good chance that this is your book, you can put this request in the "Possibly Solved" folder, by clicking the 'edit' link next to the subject line / title.

If this turns out to be the book you're looking for, come back and tell us that we were successful in our guesses. We keep the old requests (please don't delete it), so new people who're using a search function can easily find the same book, based on your keywords/description. We move these finished requests to one of the "Solved" folders, the same way as above. (In addition, I like to edit my requests to show the title and author at the top of the original post, so it shows up in google results easily).

If it turns out that this wasn't your book, or you want more suggestions - you can put this query back into the "Unsolved" folder at any time, and bump it (although we ask you to not bump it more than once a month) to put it back to the head of the queue, so it doesn't get buried in the older requests.

Cynthia Gerdik | 7 comments So neither books recommended was the book I was looking for but In for a Penny was a great read! I had read the My Darling Caroline which reminded me of the book title I am trying to figure out. This is a great web site!

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments So, how was MDC not your book, ie: what were the differences?

message 12: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Gerdik | 7 comments I do not recall anything about botany the heroine of the book was a genius at math, had younger sister and father who was matchmaking but matchmaking accomplished with subtleness.

This book has some similarities - Never Before by Jo-Ann Power?

Cythnia, around what year did you read this book?
Was is definitely set in England?
Is the heroine's family very wealthy or titled?
Why did her father choose this particular (titled?) rogue?

message 14: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Gerdik | 7 comments I believe I read it around 2009, I think the authors last name started end of alphabet as I remember buying it in a bookstore that was alphabetical, but really just not sure. The rogue was broke, do not remember why father thought of him for his odd daughter. I am pretty sure it was in England outside in the country. The heroines family was wealthy. It really is a good read I have been looking for about a year, do not use web sites often, but so glad I am now a goodreads participant.

Juels | 3314 comments Kind of similar to Against the Odds by Lisa Kleypas. It is a short story in the Where's My Hero? compilation.
