I read the first book ten years ago and I'm still craving pasta puttanesca (and I've never made it!)
I reread the first three books last year but stopped because but I didn't have anything consistent like this with buddy reads. Everyone was so ahead of me! I'd love to discuss the series as a group every Sunday (:
I didn't realize how violent this little book could be. Not really super violent but the slap Olaf gave Klaus was surprising. I shouldn't have been surprised since he put Sunny in a cage. And he basically tries to ruin their life.I never liked that no one believes them whenever the Baudelaires try to say they are in danger. It's pretty frustrating.
I wonder what Olaf's troupe think they are getting out of this. I feel like Olaf would give them either nothing or the bare minimum amount of money.
I wonder if Olaf was always an actor. Like I just can't see him getting money for a house even a dilapidated one off of being an actor.
I really want to learn to make some pasta puttanesca!

I watched the film as a young child (after reading the books) and they kind of play down the violence, I think. Or maybe I just could never take Jim Carrey seriously. I realised that Count Olaf is actually terrifying.
Count Olaf is so creepy! I loved rereading this book. When I read it when I was young I never noticed how much they emphasized her right hand throughout the book.

@Quionna - It kind of resembles real life. I've noticed parents ignoring there kids or being rude to them because they were busy.Easy to make you say? I'll have to look a recipe up then.
@Ely- Ditto with your Jim Carrey comment although I do remember him now when I think of the movie Carrey slapping Kluas.
@Hayley- It's really silly how Olaf tries to get away with things like the law and play and then Violet got out of it with another technicality. Again, that's kind of like real life law in my opinion.
Finally finished this one! I listened to the audio book tonight. It was pretty good. I don't remember it being as messed up as it was, lol.

Kind of hard to imagine me liking this as a little kid haha.
