Talon by Julie Kagawa

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

Philippa (papadelta) | 2 comments Just read and reviewed this. Gave it two stars: one for the formulaic YA love triangle and the second for the more interesting dragon/humankind set-up.

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't get myself excited about it. It's a massive one with over 400 pages and yet I read it in under 3 hours. And that's not because I'm a speed reader. That's because I skimmed the hell out of this book just to finish it. The characters were all boring and predictable. The story could have been interesting if it hadn't been for that awkward and forced love triangle. I was more drawn towards Riley but not by much. No one is a winner in this novel. Least of all me for having read it. I'm gonna go ahead and skip the second one in this series. I have hopes that it will get better but I don't care enough to find out.

Irena BookDustMagic | 54 comments I loved the writing style but it was just too predictable! Anf I wasn't the fan of the love triangle eather. I felt like we already read this story somewhere only packed with other characters and other paranormal creatures.
I will still read the second book in the series though, because I am curious how the story will develop.

Hannah (Hannah, Fully) (hannahfully) Recently reviewed this - it wasn't as original or as good as I hoped it would be. :(
