I'd like to start with a book that has already been nominated during our carte blanche last time around: Iron Curtain : The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1945-1956 by Anne Applebaum
The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, this is my nomination.

Hm, I can't think of anything right now, as most of my history books are about WW1 or WW2 (which I don't feel like nominating) or they're more biography. I think I'll wait and see what other suggestions come up.
Can I nominate The Norman Conquest by Marc Morris. Had a copy for a while now, and really must get to read it

If anyone interested in British Raj/Indian history I can nominate a book - William Dalrymple's White Mughals: Love and Betrayal in Eighteenth-Century India. An interesting book and very well written.
I nominate The Pinecone: The Story of Sarah Losh, Forgotten Romantic Heroine--Antiquarian, Architect, and Visionary.
