I'm undecided so will add three and come back when I make up my mind (and may end up reading all three anyway) ... I've read each but it's been some time since ...Beloved - Toni Morrison ... I read this for uni and remember I liked it ... It's one of my America Lit texts I didn't resell (and think is in storage from when we moved four years ago) ... That's going back 16 years now so I think I'd like to re-read ...
The Color Purple - Alice Walker ... I last read this a good 10 years ago when I taught it to a year 12 class ...
To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee ... Read this in high school and twice again in years I've taught it ...
I'm considering teaching one of the latter two to my class this year, hence likely re-reading them ... I have two senior classes - Gatsby for one and undecided for the other ...
What are your thoughts? (We don't own a class set of Beloved so it's not an option) ...
Other possible options for teaching are Nineteen Eighty Four, The Lord of The Flies, Popcorn (Ben Elton), Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Kite Runner ... Umm, I think that's it for the 12s ...
Finished the orphan masters son today. It was more of a challenging read than the other books I have read so far but I enjoyed it. Its not a book I would normally read so I'm really glad I'm doing this challenge!
My 12s voted on Mockingbird today so that's my challenge book ... May read it these holidays but starting fourth Outlander book this weekend - gotta see if it fits in any category ... Does it count for "turned into a series" if they're not up to book four yet?
I just finished Olive Kitteridge. I found it very depressing but also quite realistic. The book went along quickly due to it being broken down into short stories.
Finished up Mockingbird in Prep for my year 12 Nobel study ... You all know the drill with this book :)I did an intro lesson in terms of historical, social and cultural background the other day and the kids were fascinated by it ... Several lightbulb moments for those who have gotten well into the book too ...
