I'm currently reading my first George Gissing, The odd women, so interesting and unexpected. I also plan on reading Dickens : the Pickwick papers, then Agatha Christie : the man in the brown suit, then re-read Pride and prejudice by you-know-who. Then I'll see what will be next.
This month I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath. Also, this month I've finished reading two very wonderful books, The Secret Garden and Crooked House; I loved both books! And Crooked House is now one of my favorite Agatha Christie books:)
The secret garden is a definite yes But if I finish that I really want to read treasure island or the little princess. One question do audiobooks count or does it have to be physical books. Xx
I'm reading Mansfield Park this month for uni, as well as Wuthering Heights. Also, I'm hoping to wrap up Northanger Abbey and Evelina (Frances Burney) this month as well, but that completely depends on how much time I have left because of deadlines hahaha
I read The secret garden just after I finished re-reading Wuthering heights. Though very different, both books take place in Yorkshire and nature is a big part of them :)
I’m reading the hobbit and likely more of the lord Of the rings. I may finish Jane eyre which I adore, but it’s not quite the right time for me to read it. Continuously, I study the poetry of John Donne so that’s always on my tbr.
Hey all,The classic I’m reading this month is Elizabeth Gaskell’s ‘North and South’. I’ve watched the BBC mini series before and absolutely adored it. I fell in love with the character of Mr Thornton. I’m enjoying the book so far too. Who else here has read the book?
I plan on reading:- Heidi by Johanna Spyri
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
- The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
- The War in the Air by H.G. Wells.
It's probably a bit ambitious seeing my dissertation deadline is coming up but I'm gonna try.
I plan on reading, or rather finishing, as I've already started them:- Oliver Twist: A buddy read with my boyfriend. I haven't read any Dickens novels and he hasn't read any classics so far, and I feel like this is a good introduction both to classics in general and Dickens in particular.
- David Copperfield: I had just wanted to read the first chapter out of curiosity but got sucked into it. I like it better than Oliver Twist, but it's going to have to wait, as they're just too similar and I'm starting to mix stuff up in my head.
- The Count of Monte Cristo: A group read for the Book Lovers Club on Discord (here's the invite link if anyone's interested) that'll be running until the end of June. This is fast becoming my favourite book of all time!
- Richard II: I'm writing my BA thesis on it, so not technically a TBR for this challenge, but it's definitely also a pleasure read, as it's becoming my favourite Shakespeare history.
Furthermore, I got myself into buddy/group reads of these books:
- Mansfield Park: A reread for me. My least favourite Austen, but it's still Austen, and I still love it.
- Les Liaisons Dangereuses: Also a reread; I had to read it for my BA seminar and watch a couple of movie adaptations. It's really cool, but my German translation is awful.
- Wuthering Heights: Completely new to me, but I expect to love it!
Hey all, I’m planning on carrying on with Les Misérables (I read the first volume last month and then decided to take a break) and I’m currently reading Pride & Prejudice! I’ve also started reading Rumi’s Masnavi, which is a Persian classic :)
In May I read The School for Scandal and Other Plays by Richard Brinsley Sheridan. I may also read The Tales of Hoffmann, Claudius the God, or the first volume of Anne Lister's diaries, but we'll see how the month goes.
So far I've only read 'The Odd Women' by George Gissing in May, which is an incredibly interesting book, considering the time when it was written. I'm also reading 'Edgar Allan Poe: Sixty Seven Tales', but I'm not going to finish it in May, my plan is to read a few stories every month.I had a pretty much set TBR for April, however, now I'm having some trouble deciding on my next classic read. It will either be 'Sense and Sensibility' by Jane Austen, or 'The Age of Innocence' by Edith Wharton... Or maybe even one of the Brontes...
I'm slowly working through Barchester Towers by Trollop, and I just finished listening to Mansfield Park by Austen. I chose to watch both 1998 and 2007 adaptations of it, and prefer 2007 one. I started the month out with Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton and loved it.
I finished Les Misérables by Victor Hugo in April, so now I finished Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy and The Benefactress by Elizabeth von Arnim
I’m reading my first Tolstoy with ‘Anna Karenina’. I also plan on reading ‘The Secret Garden’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
I recently finished War and Peace (now one of my faves) which is regarded as Tolstoys masterpiece. Im going back and forth deciding if I should read Anna Karenina. Should I just move on?
Hi I really want to read two plays called An inspector calls and Macbeth. Do they both count as classics
So far I’ve read... Candide by Voltaire, Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë and the Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde. I’m working on War and Peace but I’m not confident I’ll finish it this month.
