I CAN DO IT!!!

Once again I failed to make it... Darn having twins. HAH! They will be 2 in March and I finally gave in and tried to listen to an audio book last month(which I've always refused) so I can clean and exercise when they nap. I don't know if that's considered cheating or not, but I'm going to count them. They are still books, right? hehe

Happy Reading for 2015!! Now... what book do I want to start the New Year with...? Any suggestions?

Karin | 134 comments I count audiobooks. I'm glad you gave in to it. I'd prefer to read a book, but life gets in the way and I don't want to miss our on my books. LOL

Good luck!!!

I started listening to audiobooks last year (err, this year still 2014), when before I couldn't focus, and they're good for cleaning and mundane tasks, filing paperwork, and driving! I've embraced them! And I wholeheartedly count them towards my goal. They're still books!

First book of the year is a big, exciting decision!

Good luck!

message 5: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) Thanks, guys!! Yeah, I have definitely embraced audio books this past month. And, yeah, they are books regardless! Definitely not cheating. I think for years I thought it would be so I never gave them a fair chance, but my house is not looking so neglected now and I still get to listen to books! I count that as a win-win! ;-)

Hillary (hmom) | 352 comments Ditto!!!

message 7: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I can't concentrate on the book while cleaning or cooking or anything like that. Exercise would probably be alright, but I'd rather listen to music to keep my energy up.

But right now I have enough physical reading time that I don't feel the push to make audiobooks work for me. That... is likely to change, I think. We'll see how I feel about them in a few months.

Kristin (kristinnb) JANUARY BOOKS

This month I am focusing on books that I have read before but didn't get to read the whole series because they weren't out yet.

1. Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie Ally Condie

I remember enjoying Matched a little more then. I don't know, I gave it 3 stars this time around, 4 the first. I hated how Cassia played Zander and the whole love story between Ky and Cassia wasn't all that believable to me. I've started the second book now. We will see if I finish it. I have two books going on and I seem to want to read Bloodlines more than Crossed at the moment.

I need to do some book research and finish reading some series that I haven't yet and are complete! Two I can think of off the top of my head are Mara Dyer and Mortal Instruments. I know there's more.

message 10: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) I still need to finish Mortal Instruments as well. I put Mara Dyer on my to-read list and decided I wouldn't read it until all were out. There are so many I started but never finished so now I will not read a series until they're done! Haha

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 8834 comments Mod
Mara Dyer is done now! :) I just read the first book last month and am waiting for the others from the library.

message 12: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) Sweet! I will be reading it soon! Thanks! So many series that I have been dying to read but I just won't do it until they're complete. Hurry up authors! Lol

message 13: by Karol (new)

Karol | 221 comments Kristin wrote: "I CAN DO IT!!!"

Yes, you can! I know the feeling, Kristin. I didn't hit the goal the last couple of years. I came closer in 2014 and do hope to make it this year. Sometimes, life gets busy in wonderful ways. However much reading time you have, it is just great having you as part of our group! Best wishes to you and your precious family.

message 14: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I don't like reading series until they're complete either. I've made exceptions in the past and usually end up re-reading the earlier books every time a new installment comes out anyway, so it's really a time-saver if I can just wait.

I completely agree! I end up wasting so much time re-reading books in anticipation for the newest one. I did that last year for the new Dresden book, but got caught up in the holidays and haven't made it to the new one yet :/

Kristin (kristinnb) 2. Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead Richelle Mead

I enjoyed this book so much more the second time!! The final book in this series comes out in February so I figured it was safe to restart this series. Oh how I adore Adrian... I can't wait to see him grow more in these books. I like Sydney too. When I read Vampire Academy I couldn't stand Rose the first book but she grew so much throughout the series. I know that Sydney will as well.

message 18: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 3. The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead Richelle Mead

Great second book!! Still lacking in action but the characters absolutely make up for it. I know that as the series goes on the action will build, just like in VA. Sydney still has growing to do, but I adore her all the same.

Ooh that sounds fun! Maybe I'll try that this year.

message 20: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) You should, Elyse! I've tried before and failed... This is my year! Lol

Hillary (hmom) | 352 comments What do you use for the letter X?

Kristin (kristinnb) I haven't thought that one out yet. Surely there's a book out there? Now I need to go find one?

I created a folder for the ABC Challenge if you want to copy and paste your list over. This should be fun! There's a book XVI by Julia Karr I want to read. That's going to be my X!

message 24: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) Awesome, Elyse!!! I will move it on to over there! Exciting to see if others join in too! I will also have to look up that book. :-)

message 25: by Kristin (last edited Jan 15, 2015 04:21PM) (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 4. The Indigo Spell (Bloodlines, #3) by Richelle Mead Richelle Mead

Enjoyed this one as well. Sydney is still growing and learning to overcome a lifetime of prejudice. Still waiting for more action but I'm still loving the books!

message 26: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 5. Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie Ally Condie

Meh... It was good but I got bored a lot with this one. Maybe the third will be better?

message 27: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 6. The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4) by Richelle Mead Richelle Mead

Love these characters! I think the next book will finally have the action that I've been waiting for. It better!!

message 28: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 7. Silver Shadows (Bloodlines, #5) by Richelle Mead Richelle Mead

The action I've been waiting 5 books for!!! Definitely the best one yet. Can't wait to read the last! It comes out in 2 weeks. I put reading this series off because I knew it would take forever for her to write all 6 books. Finally the conclusion of Vampire Academy is near! Unless she comes up with another spin off..

Kristin (kristinnb) FEBRUARY BOOKS

8. Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare Cassandra Clare

Finally picked this book up! I still haven't even finished the Mortal Instruments yet. I read them when the first 3 were out, not knowing she was writing more. I should probably finish that series. Anyway, so far I'm enjoying this series.

9. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess Anthony Burgess

Ummm... Still trying to figure out how I finished this one. It was definitely different from what I normally read. Good in some ways and not good in others. lol

I totally count audiobooks! They are great for when you are driving too.

OH - and LOVE Clockwork Orange!!

message 33: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 10. Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare Cassandra Clare

Really enjoyed this one. But what the heck is up with all the love triangles? How is this one going to turn out without tearing people apart? I like Tessa and all, but making out with best friends and such is never a good idea... ever.

message 34: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 11. Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3) by Cassandra Clare Cassandra Clare

Ok... The last book in this series was BRILLIANT! I loved everything about it and the ending had me in tears. Loved this series.

Kristin (kristinnb) MARCH BOOKS

12. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë Charlotte Brontë

This book was way better than I thought it was going to be. I really enjoyed the quirkiness of all of the characters.

Love Jane Eyre.

Kristin (kristinnb) 13. The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater Maggie Stiefvater

If I wasn't curious about what will happen to a few characters in the next book, I probably would stop here. Hopefully I'll enjoy the next better. I listened to the audio book though, so maybe that's why I was as invested into this story as much.

message 38: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 14. Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater Maggie Stiefvater

I liked this one a heck of a lot more than the second book. Still not sure why I didn't get into that one. Unfortunately I thought there were only 3 books, but I was wrong! Grrrr.... Now I have to wait for the next. Ugh, I hate waiting.

message 39: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) 15. The Elite (The Selection, #2) by Kiera Cass Kiera Cass

Great second book. Didn't take me long to get into it, since it had been a while since I read the first book. Love triangles (squares) drive me crazy, but I'm sure all will work out in the end.

Kristin (kristinnb) 16. The One (The Selection, #3) by Kiera Cass Kiera Cass

I flew through this book. These books are purely for entertainment. They're fast, and easy, and sweet. The depth of the background (the northerners and southerners) are lacking, the fighting too, but the characters and the things that go on inside the castle are enough entertainment to keep you absorbed.

I also thought this was a cute, fun series. Not a lot of depth. And it's not over! The Heir comes out in May!

message 42: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristinnb) I saw that! 20 years later and their daughter will have to go through the whole thing too. Should be quite interesting. Can't wait to read it!

I think book 4 is the last one.

Fell behind the past week or two. Gotta pick up the pace! Was a good book and a different take on Cinderella.
