I have posted a new topic on how to create a character, and what you should check. Please visit this topic here for the rules and guidelines, and also importantly, the character list before making any characters!

The Fall Dance
This will be an upcoming event that will last from 11 May 2020 to 17 May 2020, so that if you are in a different timezone, or have plans on particular days, you are still able to attend the ball with your characters. Should you guys want us to extend the ball, please type it in the chat / questions section only after 17 May 2020! You can find more information about the ball here.

Upcoming Events
For events after the ball, we will be holding polls, and asking for your suggestions as well. Events could include capture the flag, sports day etc. But this is for after the ball! Typically, we hope to have an event each month, so that you have time to also roleplay too!

Funeral or not?

Hey everyone! I have posted a poll, and invited you guys to answer the question on - should we have a funeral for Linda, Maya's character, and by extension, Maya's moderator role in this group. Let me know if it's not nice, or whether we should do it etc. you can also discuss it on the chat if you have other suggestions!

The Fall Dance
At GMT+0, I might not be awake because I'll be asleep, and I'm not sure if any of the moderators will be commencing it. But in the event that I have yet to start the ball even if half an hour has passed, so meaning by 00:30, then feel free to start using the facilities in The Fall Dance thread to role play the dance!

Please note that the dance will last the whole week, from 11/05/20 to 17/05/20; so make full use of it! Once you're "ready to leave" the ball, you can just continue roleplaying in the other roleplay threads. It's up to you, own time own target ya ;) That's all, and have fun!

New Rules

Due to the recent er... let's say events, I've noticed that characters are dying , or like dying and then reviving? I'm not even sure. We would just like to say that:

1. NO MORE killing off of characters. It is plot-listically impossible, because they are Gods and Goddesses and they are supposed to be immortal. I've let the first one pass because it was so sudden and you guys have already role-played the whole scene, which was why I also created a funeral. But from now on, there will be no character deaths.

So what will be the alternative, if let's say the characters' owner has went MIA, and hasn't been back for a while, and it's certain that they won't be back? I will create a character adoption sheet, and monitor the activeness of members, and then add their names there should they become inactive (not active for more than 2 months) Anyone else who is still active can adopt the character unless they already have 5 characters that on hand. You are not allowed to give up your own character for adoption unless you are leaving goodreads, or the group etc. Commit to who you have made.

2. This brings me to the second point. Changing of characters' age, gender, last name etc. - just so you can fit the plot that you made. This is us saying once and for all, that that is also not allowed. When you create your character, you should have thought through what you want your character to portray, and to be. If you did not, this would mean that you are just making one for the sake of making, and this is not encouraged.

It is true, we had allowed it once, on Alex the character (age change of 12 - 15), but afterwards we have received other requests, and henceforth decided that it is not allowed. If you're unhappy with the way your character turned out, either create another one or stick with it. This is also easier for us moderators to keep track of characters and their age etc.

3. As I had mentioned in the post for character creating, the new rules, will be implemented on 11 May, when the dance starts, but we are still seeing people with characters that have minimal description, and basically undeveloped personality. Like, we don't think its healthy for the group to grow should this continue to happen, with characters' that basically don't have any personality. This goes the same for your pets.

New Moderator(s)

We know that some of you have been looking to be moderators, after understand our moderator situation. I had previously rejected several moderators' applications, because we felt that it was unnecessary at that point in time, and frankly, I was looking for someone who was mature, and was able to handle the group maturely. What maturity means is to be able to make such announcements, that may not be the best sounding (it sounds aggressive doesn't it) and not agree to everything. They must be able to disagree, and to make changes to rules, and to roleplay decently as well. This is so that we can help you grow as a role-player. I don't want to appoint someone just so they can help us a little, and have the role as a moderator, but unravel the basic rules that we have set.

It is true that some of you have shown some potential, alerting us moderators of what is going on around the threads, being our eyes and ears. Given that the group is growing bigger as well, and one of our moderators is inactive, Ken and I have decided to appoint a new moderator. While some of you did approach us, we have also taken other things into consideration, and as someone else had approached us to be a moderator, we felt that they were a good candidate to help moderate the group. You'll see them added as a moderator on the right. If you need clarifications as to why they got it, and you did not get it or you might want to go for it, PM me.


This thread will continue to get updated as we will be making more announcements as the days go by. I'm not targeting anyone, or anything, but I just want to make sure that we are all on the same page. Thanks guys, sorry it's been a long day at work T-T

Characters' Death

Hey guys! After a discussion with one of the members, I've decided that we will have a Character Death request, in the event that you wish to kill off your characters, and not a blanket ban on killing the characters. We will not approve just any request. It has to be a justifiable reason i.e your character is highly suicidal, you are leaving the group / goodreads / etc. that we will deem appropriate.

If you wish to kill off other roleplayers' characters, let us know as well, but that is also by a case by case basis.

New Jobs & Locations

Hey everyone, we have added new jobs in the jobs requests thread because we have added a restaurant and a mini water park (with recommendation from Six)

Closure of creation of Female / Goddesses until we get at least 35 Gods

As I have mentioned in the previous announcement / character creation thread, when we hit 35 female characters, they will be temporarily closed. We will not approve any characters that are female from Brooke's submission onwards, until we reach 35 Males.

The reason for is this is to maintain a balance of gender in the group, so that it's better for roleplay, or even if you want to date someone of the opposite gender, for example.

Also, take a look at the character's list to view the list of characters, and you'll see a PLETHORA of girls there. Use that to see which Gods have already been taken up so that you can create someone original. Thanks

Moderator Things


Hey ya'll :> so this post is to address several Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding to moderators. If you have any other questions, please ask in the questions thread, and not a random area elsewhere :( thank you for reading!

1. Who are the mods?

The moderators are basically me, Ken, Calanthe and Ava; but as you can observe, there are only a few active moderators, which is why I am against the idea of choosing moderators without confirming their activity / dedication to the group. I was chosen when Maya had left, and I've kind of "taken control" even though Ken is the original moderator.

In the recent days, for majority of things, like character checking, dorm making, updating of character list, setting up the full dance, answering questions etc. it's been basically me, until I've decided to get Calanthe on board because I thought we could use an extra active pair of hands, and someone who is conscientious and mature: which means to be making effort into reading through the characters and not blindly approving them, cleaning up junk in the threads, taking of note of requests regularly, able to handle roleplaying and moderating etc.

But, unfortunately, Calanthe has to leave temporarily for the summer because of her job scope; where she's not allowed to have phones, and it'll be for all summer, so that means that it's back to me again for looking over a group of 50, coming to 60 people; and I don't blame her, but I just want you guys to have slightly more patience just for now in terms of administrative things.

2. Why has the responses towards our questions not been quick / consistent?

If the responses towards you character creation / anything really, has been slower, it's also because I'm trying to have a balance between my GR life and real life, because when I was younger I spent wayyyy to much time on GR and left for a good couple of years due to fatigue.

Also, I'm in a much different timezone from you guys - the majority of you are at least 12 - 14 hours behind me, so theoretically when I should be sleeping, is when you're most active, but I don't really sleep early too. I spend my day time at work or sleeping, and the first thing I do on GR is to do moderator things and not reply to my roleplay threads across groups, so that's tough as well.

3. Will you be recruiting more moderators?

For the summer, very probably. But I'm not sure if the moderator is going to be a temporary mod, or a permanent mod because when Calanthe is back after summer, we'll have too many mods tending to one group. But this all depends on the activity of the group by summer's end etc. So it is not confirmed.

Furthermore, if it's not obvious, I have pretty high expectations for a moderator in a group, because you have to deal with tensions, deal with your own characters, other characters, deal with questions, events, and all sorts of other things.

4. What do I do to be a moderator in the group?

I'll put up a moderator application thread soon. I don't want just anyone to be a moderator - I / we (but mostly me) need someone reliable. I'll add to this in the moderator application thread I guess?? Maybe I have high standards for being a moderator, but I truly believe that a moderator, and any leader actually, is supposed to set a good example, and not just give in to the people / allow people to choose and do what they want.

5. Why are you tying to control the group so tightly? -- okay idk if anyone actually asks this / think about that, but just in case you're wondering why i'm poppin' off with things like your characters, and your dorms, and characters's list:

I'm not trying to be a perfectionist, but rather have the group under some form of control, especially when it is growing. I hope for people to have fun with one another, but in a more meaningful way by creating a deeper character to RP with others, and I think the other mods do so too. I also hope for people to have individual characters that make sense, and are not overpowered so that other characters won't feel inferior to your character just because you want to be the best, or you want to make your character perfect.

I understand that this is not a semi-detailed group, which means that you guys don't have to put in AS MUCH EFFORT, but as a moderator, I feel like it's my responsibility to help you guys grow as roleplayers / idk people? not sure about that hehe but, I just want the best for the group. I was given the role, and I'm going to maximise it to the best I can so that ya'll can have an enjoyable time.

But this means that you have to help me too, by giving me the information for your characters - AND I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF IMPROVEMENT in this aspect! This helps me so that I don't have to go back and forth threads to see what's your character's name etc etc. and I can organise everything really quickly. So thank you for that! I would also like to thank the people who have contributed ideas to help the group grow, because I couldn't have done it on my own.

TLDR:

what really is a mod: being a moderator is really hard work, it's not just approving characters and answering questions / creating dorms. it's about prioritizing what seems to be the next course of action, and managing the group's activities, while juggling real-life commitments, sleep and timezone problems

Calanthe's Temporary Absence

As I have mentioned in the above post, Calanthe has to leave temporarily for the summer because of her job scope; where she's not allowed to have phones, which means she can't reply to GR. So she has told me to help her keep her characters in a book for now, so her characters Marlowe, Sterling and Bennet won't be available for roleplay from when she leaves till she's back after summer ( AND I HAVE FAITH SHE WILL ) so this is just an update!

Adoption

For the adoption of characters, because you feel like you want to give them up to create more characters, I have initially said no to that, but after consideration, I think that I will allow that. However, you must get someone to adopt thembefore you are allowed to make more characters if you have already hit a maximum of 5. The other criteria are all stated in the respective threads!

For others who have decided to leave GR / will be gone, and you don't mind putting up your characters for adoption, this is for you too.

Revamp of Rules

The revamp of rules (as you can see it's like, very few rules now) will be happening soon, when I find the time to do so. But in the meantime, I will be monitoring people in the group, ensuring that everyone adheres, and make this group a fun and lively place!

Delay of Moderator Application

Hi everyone! If you've noticed, Calanthe's actually back for another 1.5 months because of Covid-19 :( But this also means that we won't be opening up moderator slots for now, as there are already 3 moderators.

As a side note, Ken and I have discussed and when Calanthe actually leaves for camp, we will be opening up for temporary moderators, so they won't be here forever, only here till Calanthe comes back later on. But this is news for later, as for now you're still going to be stuck with the three of us!

Clarifications

Jumping into a roleplay is fine, but please ask if the people RP-ing are all right with it. Also if you're not from the roleplay, try your best not to make out of character (OOC) comments, so that the roleplay doesn't get lost in the spam; and the exception is when the people RP-ing are okay with the OOC comments! Some of you only type things like "Lol" which is rather unnecessary in some instances, but if you want to type things like "i ship them so much!!", which makes the other RP-ers happy, or positive and kind things, then that's completely fine. but don't overdo it as well :')

Secondly, this is a reminder that there will be no killing off any characters until you fill in the form and it's approved! You can find the form here, at character death request form.

It's not a very noticeable thread, as it is at the bottom of "general" so sorry about that, and it's not your fault if you haven't seen it, but now it's here, please make sure you fill in the necessary things if you want to do things, which ranges from jobs, to death, to character adoption etc.

Dorms

OKAY EVERYONE I have just decided to make our lives easier, from now on, you can either choose to:

1. Have a single dorm
2. Have a double dorm with someone, but please ask them yourselves / post here.

You can also create your own dorm threads in the Girls Dorm or Guys Dorm folders, so you won't have to wait for a moderator to do it, but please follow the format that we have already been going with:

X & Y or X

We don't want to see things like: X and Y!!!! or X and Yyyyyy
or some weird stuff. Sorry just OCD things :p

We won't be pairing you guys up anymore. Just ensure that you don't make your own decision to double dorm with someone unwilling. Make sure that they are willing to dorm with you. And the same gender can only pair with the same gender for a double dorm. Even if your characters are siblings, the rules remain the same.

I will do sporadic spot checks, and ensure that these are not flouted. If anyone is unhappy with their double dorm - mate because you've been forced into it etc, PM me and we'll deal with that. This thread will now be for you guys to find a double dorm mate, but if you have already discussed it elsewhere, you can just go ahead and create the dorm thread.

Adoption

There is one character, Bucky, up for adoption, and another, Noah, coming soon, so head to the Adoption Center if you would like to adopt them!

Please try to go and attend classes with the teachers you have created!

Moderator

As you can see, Ken has left the group for reasons I do not know, and the group is now on Ellipses/Calanthe and me! We have decided not to open up for moderator applications for now until absolutely necessary. Being a moderator is not something just for "title" sake, or just because you're proven that you are very active then you deserve it. Nope. As a moderator, it's like being a leader! It carries a lot of responsibility. You guys only make characters, and role play, but we moderate and ensure that things go smoothly, no matter how tired we are. For example, when I come home from work at 11.30 PM, I make it a point to come back to GoodReads so you guys won't be left hanging with your characters, or questions etc.

For myself, I didn't choose to be the moderator, Ken kind of just gave me the responsibility, and that's why despite their absence most of the time across May, I still tried my best. And fortunately Ellipses is a reliable moderator, and they are trying their best too, despite her life outside of GR. So we really hope that you guys can respect us, as like, human beings, and understand that it is not easy being a moderator.

Now that the group is managed by both of us, I will be uploading a new set of rules soon, and actually implement the strikes system so that we are able to maintain order, and keep our sanity. I will also revamp the group slightly, to make sure things make sense for new people who join. That will take some time, but we'll try as much as we can. Hey Clairene. I kinda thought it would be appropriate to post this here? You can delete it if you want but I wanted to post this. @Almond Milk posted this on the chat - and I agree with it completely.

Okay. I just have to get this off of my chest.

I thought this group was going to be fun, but no. I just feel the need to say...i know how Clairene says “Rude, stubborn” people be sensitive? Literally Six broke that rule. She told Lesbian’s character “Don’t ever come near me or my friends again.” That made me SO MAD. How can someone even come near you again?! Not with that smacktalk, nobody is ever going to talk to you again. If this group- one little group - is going to make me punch something, i truly hate it. I am so mad at the moment, and i probably won’t come back. I am kinda fed up, with the drama.

Now, this is a stand for Lesbian also. I feel Six is being rude to almost...every person. Mainly Lesbian. Lesbian is an amazing rp-er, and i would love to RP with her all of the time ;) but, to me, Six is just being rude. My friend Honeybee thinks that also.

Six, your words really hurt Lesbian. I think an “I’m sorry” will get some sense in your head. You made me mad, you hurt Lesbian. I won’t tolerate nobody being rude to my best friends. Please. Make either Hazel say sorry, or you owe her (Lesbian) IN GENERAL. Please. Go be rude to a pillow, just don’t even roleplay saying “Don’t even come near my friends again.” Because that attitude? That makes people mad. and sad. To me? That’s cyber-bullying.

Note; i am not being overdramatic. I am being very truthful.

Locking of The Academy of Goddesses and Gods | Gratitude, Apologies & Updates

We (Ellipsis and I), know that it has not been long since Ken has left, and the entire situation happened between a couple of our roleplayers. We would like to thank those who are involved (you know who you are), who had stepped up to help us to serve justice! For those that had been hurt, we are really sorry that has happened, and it's partially due to our weak enforcement here ourselves too, that it escalated. Thank you for, however, sticking by with us, and some of us even got closer during this one-day period :> Anyway, on the topic of enforcement, this brings me to my next statement;

The quality of the group has also been bugging us for quite some time. Maybe we have high expectations, or perhaps we just like to order in groups, we don't think that at the current state in this particular point in time, the group meets those standards. But because this group has so much potential, we have decided get inspiration from this group to create a new group with a new story line, more types of characters, making it semi-detailed, and with more interesting events that will happen. It will be similar, but enhanced!

Now, we understand that it may not be fair to some of you because you have already gotten used to the simplicity of the group, or perhaps you have already made friends and you guys are going to embark on a journey or something. We welcome you to do that in the new group, in which we will link to once we have finished constructing it.

As both of us no longer want to moderate this group, and given the comments that I have already made all over the group, it is difficult to hand it over to someone else. Hence, we have decided to lock the group, meaning we will lock the threads so no new comments can be made. However, you are still able to access your previous characters and everything if you wish to. You can bring them over to the new group should you wish to join the new semi-advanced group.

Given that, we must tell you that since it is a semi-advanced group, the expectations will be higher. There will actually be rules enforced this time, and strikes to be given so that such events (that happened yesterday) won't happen again. You will have to make more in depth characters, and we won't hesitate to reject them, and you have to have at least 3 to 4 lines per role play comment, as much as possible.

More information will be released on a later date when the group is finished constructing. We hope that we have done a good enough job moderating here that you will be enticed to join the other group. We promise that it will help you grow as not only a roleplayer, but as a person too! It will be just as, if not more, fun as compared to this group :) Take it as an upgrade!

This group will still be left as it is for now, but we suggest you don't create new characters just yet, as you may want to make them in the other group ;) If you have any questions, ask below (yes I'm allowing comments here!), or ask in the question / chat thread.

I have a question! With the new group, you said we could transfer our old characters over. Will there be a new character template to follow for that?

We will have a new character template ready for you! It is much more demanding, so what you transfer over is really up to you.

You could give them an entirely different name, with the same powers, or same name but different personality types etc :)

Yeah you can call me that! It's an amazing book series. If you haven't read it, then I strongly suggest that you do. If not, that's okay. Just PM me what you want their ability to be (or if they haven't manifested the ability to be) and I will put that into KOTLC wording. Also, the Neverseen are the bad guys and the Black Swan are the good guys. Or your character could just be neither.

Three reasons-

I was intending on locking so people can still see that the group exists, but not really. Like it's searchable.

Furthermore others who have their character information don't have to redo them from scratch.

Deleting the group would probably be too drastic, and its not even my group to begin with. So if Ken wants to return some day, she can if she feels like it.

Um, you should probably check the chat... but basically someone cyber bullied me and they got removed but there were other people who supported the person who cyberpunk bullied me so the mods wanna enforce no cyber bullying. Or at least that’s what I think.

Hey everyone! You should have received a PM from Ellipsis, on the new updates. In case you haven't seen it, this is the content of it:

So, after much thought and deliberation, Clairene and I have come to a conclusive decision. We will go through with creating the new group, but we will be locking some of the topics here. If some of you who do not feel up to doing an advanced roleplay, or just do not want to, will be able to stay in this group and just continue to roleplay. There will be no more character, pet, or teacher creations, just roleplaying. This is for those of you who have a side-plot already, and may or may not want to transfer it into the new group. We'd prefer if those of you who did want to do that would do that here, and then roleplay with your new(or old) characters in the new group, going along with the plot we have already decided on. We have not finished the plot yet, or all the little thing that will make the plot unique and a special one, but we are almost there, and when it is done, we will let you know.

At least for Ellipsis and I (@Ellipsis, correct me if I'm wrong), we won't be playing our characters much, and probably not at all actually, as we will be busy focusing on the other group.

So as she had mentioned, this group will only be for roleplaying. It will be implemented ASAP, and if you see the threads locked, please do not be surprised. We will keep the locations opened, though, for your convenience.

Hey everyone who is still here! It has been a while! Following Ellipsis' exit from Goodreads, I have admittedly lost some motivation to roleplay, much less continue to improve the group that we had made together.

However, I'm not one to go back on my promises, so despite the delay, the group will be released very soon (like for reals). The Celestial Institution

After a long, long while (almost a month), we have finally completed the new group! It took wayyyyy longer than expected, but because of life and everything, we're done with it! It's a semi-advanced group, so please ensure that you are able to commit to posting at least 4 sentences per post, and detail in your character making. The moderators will call you out, doing our rounds to check that everything is all right.

We took inspiration from Greek Mythology to create the group as well, so that's a random fact there.
