Amelia wrote: "Great to see you have read Blue Jewelry by Katharina Winkler. What did you think about it?"I found it a most disturbing read. the subject matter made me very uncomfortable. but... I loved the way it was written, grammatical sequences for example. just as if a young person, without a great deal of education, was expressing her thoughts and relating her experiences. So sad.
I was impressed overall and thank you to Seagull Publishing who distributed many books during the height of the lockdown.
What did you think?
I loved it and was very impressed by it. Never read something with this insight about this country before. It was one of my books of the year when it came out.
Mirko wrote: "I'm curious, what did you think about The Magic Mountain?"I enjoyed it enormously. It took me a long time listening to it on audio but I became really invested in all the characters and the philosophical discussions and the lively arguments. Sometimes I found it amusing especially the descriptions of the people living in the sanatorium not least Hans Castorp who was a fabulous character.
I did wonder at times if I might have given up if I was reading the book and not listening. Sometimes the discussions went on and on. I'm not very good at skimming! so have to read or listen to every word. But I did it!
Have you read it?
