Hello and welcome to the first post of "Book Bites," a monthly post about the great cookbooks and food-forward titles here at Upper Arlington Public Library.
Our first post is going to be featuring José Andrés and his book: Vegetables Unleashed
Chef Andrés has been in the news quite frequently lately for his amazing humanitarian efforts, and his passion for the propagation of healthy, sustainable, and absolutely delicious foods. I can also assert with confidence that his recipes and stories left me with a new perspective on produce-forward cooking, and has got me excited to get back home to my crisper drawer. Andrés breaks his recipes down into seasonal chunks, featuring easily navigable instructions and ingredients lists. The book is also chock-full of memoirs of the inspiring work that Andrés has done throughout his career, and small biographies of the amazing people he has met and struggled beside in his war on hunger.
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone, vegetarian or not, I am willing to bet that even the most carnivorous of you will be able to find something you'll love. I highly suggest you at least give his avocado milkshake a try, it sounds weird, but it knocked my skeptical socks off.
Enough about me though, what books have you been cooking from lately? Any new dishes you're particularly proud of or surprised by? I for one am currently craving all the fresh, new fruits and veggies that will hopefully be arriving soon as things warm up.
Feel free to comment below, and keep your eyes peeled for our next post here on our group page!
