The second thing I have learned from this book is how important world building. Especially if you can get it in early on. "The flawless, azure sky among the trees was repeated in the waters of Crystalmir Lake."
The third thing I have learned from this book is using songs to tell stories that won't come up otherwise. Or even using songs to foreshadow things in general. "The grassland faded, and autumn is here. The girl joins her lover and stones whistle near, The staff flares in blue light And both of them vanish: The grasslands are faded, and autumn is here"
