Say hello if you will be joining in our group read of Gone With the Wind for June.

Is this your first time reading this chunker or have you read it before?

Have you seen the movie adaptation?

How are you?! Are you still staying home a ton or as things are opening up are you starting to get out more?

I have read Gone With the Wind, but it was probably 25 years ago or so. Yikes! I am so excited to read it again. I also have seen the movie many times, but more when I was a kid. It also has been ages since I've seen it.

I'm still staying home as much as possible. I have a brother living with me who is pretty vulnerable because of a health condition, so I am avoiding stores and other places as much as I can. The hermit side of me doesn't mind too much, but I do miss getting together with friends and family. I'm planning a trip to NY to see my mom later in June, but will just be at her house not gallivanting all around. (haha. I don't think I've ever written the word gallivanting before. Have no clue how to spell it!). Hope and pray you are all well!

Katherine I look forward to re-reading this book. It's probably also been that long since I read it. I have watched the movie so many times. Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh are great. I'm not upset about staying home either. I am still working outside the home so i look forward to Saturday and Sunday isolating. I zoom with my Sunday School class and my church service is posted online.

Kate | 39 comments I will be joining in. This is my first time reading the book, but I saw the movie as a kid and really enjoyed it. I bought the e-book for $1.99 about a year ago but have yet to pick it up, I think because it is a real chunker. This will be a great way to read through it.

As for COVID, I live in Canada and many places here are still closed. I'm staying in ad much as possible and reading even more than usual. I like socialising but I am more introverted than not, so quarantine has come pretty naturally to me.

Best to everyone, enjoy the read!

Mayra Chicas (mirareads_) | 2 comments Can’t wait to read this with you all. I’ve only been able to make it through about 100 pages.

I’m still quarantining with my husband. We tried go out last weekend but many places are still closed or have limited hours. We’re better off just staying home.

message 6: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 17 comments I'm joining in! I've had Gone With the Wind on my tbr for far too long. It is time to read it!

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna | 13 comments I'm joining in! I've never read the book OR seen the movie!!!

We are still staying in mostly. Limited trips out with face masks!

message 8: by Kim (new)

Kim Kantor (kimkantor) | 92 comments Oh my gosh, I had NOT planned on joining - was just going to read notes vicariously through all of you. I have read itYEARS ago - maybe 40? - when I was a teen. Then thought I’ll join but wanted to buy a nice hardcover to keep. It was absolutely one of my favorite movies as a younger teen...so romantic I thought. Cheap theaters would play it for a buck! Anyway, nice copies are super $$ so decided not to participate. Then reading these notes, I saw someone got it for 99 cents. Okay, I’ll check it out. Suffice to say, after all this waffling, kindle has it for 65 cents! Decision made. I am joining this group. I know y’all wanted my thought processes, right? Haha. Anyway,I do love this group and this book is so good. Who knows if I’ll finish it in June but that’s okay
I’m on the border of Washington and Oregon. Supposedly we are Phase 1 opening. Everyone appears to act like it’s a free-for-all and not wearing masks, etc., but I’m one of the lucky immune suppressed folks due to chemo so I’m stuck at home most of the time. More time for reading, yeah?
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading my rambling. Please all stay safe and healthy! Enjoy your reading and hopefully the beautiful month of June!

message 9: by Cherrie (new)

Cherrie | 1 comments Hello! I’m Cherrie, this will be my first time reading GWTW, and my first book club read as well! I have not seen the movie, so this will be all new material to me. I am an essential worker, staying at home isn’t an option. Work has kept a sense of normalcy in my life during quarantine, and for that I am grateful! I am excited to read with all of you!

message 10: by Debbi (last edited May 30, 2020 06:21PM) (new)

Debbi Faust Hello, Krista and the rest of the group. I am joining in for sure.

I have never read the book and I don't think I have ever watched the movie from beginning to end. Just bits and pieces here and there.

I live in WA. state and we are still in Phase 1 of the quarantine. My normal life is so crazy, busy that I don't mind this time at home. I just told my husband today that "I am worried about myself because I don't want to go anywhere". BUT I SURE COULD USE A HAIRCUT!!!!

Hey, Kim! I just looked at Goodreads page and I see you live very close to me. I am in Vancouver. Hazel Dell to be exact. So I will just say "Hi Neighbor".

message 12: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimparonish) | 12 comments I am joining in. Like many of you I read it 20+ years ago and loved it. Time for a re read. Can’t wait! When I’m done I think I’ll watch the move again.
As for life....I am currently in the hospital but I need to go home today. My husband and I are divorcing and I am moving into an apartment June 12. I still have tons to do. In St Louis we are still in Phase 1. I need to get pillows and I can’t do that online cause I want to feel them. I am ready for this to done. We were supposed to go to Phase 2 tomorrow but on Friday our governor extended Phase 1 till June 15.

Kim

message 13: by Elsa (new)

Elsa Hi friends! I read GWTW and saw the adaptation about 20 years ago. I am looking forward to reading it again with more mature eyes. It is slightly awkward to be reading GWTW during this time in the US. The murder and protests will affect my reading.

I am getting out more. My husband and I are both in healthcare, but we are not currently working in high risk units. We have had a ton of rain in SC which has helped with staying home.

message 14: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 1 comments I’ve been reading this as my “slow, but steady.” Unfortunately, I’ve been more slow than steady 🙄 Hoping that reading with you all will help me pick up the pace!

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather | 3 comments I'll be joining. I happen to own a copy of the book I got while at the Margaret Mitchell house so I don't have to actually buy anything for this one. I've only gotten about 180 pages through the book and I've never made it the whole way through the movie.

Tennessee is opening up more so I'm about to get around a bit more. I've been doing a lot of hiking since that's about the safest thing here to do.

message 16: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissy992) | 1 comments I will be joining as well. This will be my first book with this group and I am so excited! I have never read this book and really look forward to it. I love the idea of the story, just have never read it! I have seen the film, but many years ago.

message 17: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Nall | 4 comments Looking forward to joining the fun. Haven't read the book but have seen the movie several times.

As for the lock down, things are moving very slowly here in CA. We have been getting out a little more lately.

message 18: by Catherine (last edited Jun 01, 2020 02:25AM) (new)

Catherine Eddy (fyreglo) | 9 comments don't think that I will be able to join for GWTW.. as I can't get it from my library as they are closed right now and no curbside pick up for us here yet... I even checked Gutenburg.org and they don't have a copy either... I'm on a "not buying anything" for a while so don't want to buy a brand new copy. I might read one of the July recommendations or just carry over GWTW to later in the summer for me once my library opens.

message 19: by Jennifer Anne (new)

Jennifer Anne | 2 comments Hello! I will be joinng in also. I have never read the book or seen the movie. I have always wanted to read the book first, I just never got around to it, so I am really looking forward to getting lost in this big chunker of a book! I live on Long Island, NY and we have just begun Phase 1 of reopening. I am working from home so I only leave the house if I have to go to the grocery store.

message 20: by Kim (new)

Kim Abbott | 5 comments I'll be joining! This will be the first time reading this. I'm really looking forward to it. I don't know if I will finish it this month but going to give it a try. I did see the movie a long time ago.

I've been staying home most of the time. I go out for work (a couple days out of the week) and to go get groceries. I did venture out this past weekend to our local flea market and go out to eat.

message 21: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette I’m joining in this read. I’m excited as this was on my TBR for 2020. I was lucky enough to see it in a movie theater last year when it was one of the 12 classic movies rereleased for a limited run.

message 22: by DJ (new)

DJ | 9 comments I have never read this, but have wanted to for years. I also have never seen the movie. I can’t wait to read this in June! Thanks for the motivation, Krista!

message 23: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Tavares Joining in! Just picked up my copy from my library's curbside pickup which started today. I have never read this but it was one of my 2020 Reading Goals so that worked out. I did see the movie probably 13 years ago.

message 24: by Jennifer (last edited Jun 02, 2020 09:34AM) (new)

Jennifer | 17 comments I've seen the movie. The first time I watched it was in a history class I was taking when I was going to grad school. Gone With the Wind was my Grandma's favorite movie and when I told her I was going to watch it in my class she was very excited for me to see it. We didn't finish it in the class, but one of my good friends invited me over to watch the whole thing start to finish and then I was able to talk about the movie with my Grandma. My Grandma was not a movie watcher so talking about Gone With the Wind with her was special. She passed away 6 years ago and everytime I watch the movie, I think of her and our discussion. I've started the book, I'm not very far into it but I'm glad to be finally reading this book.

message 25: by Kerrie (new)

Kerrie Hatcher | 7 comments I'm in! I've read GWTW 5 times; however, it's been a couple of decades since the last time. So I'm curious how I will view the characters and events.

message 26: by Tiki-Tami (new)

Tiki-Tami I have gone back and forth on this one. It is such a chunker and there are so many books to read this Summer. I love the movie and always planned to read it. I had it on hold at the library, it will never come back to be checked out. Today I found a copy at a used book store. It is now or never, I'm in!

message 27: by Charla (new)

Charla Hudson (c_oppenlander) I'm in! I've been waiting for the library's copy to come back, but might just buy the ebook version to get started.

Still working as a librarian in our county's library - we now have our main library open for limited services. Branches are open by appt only. Hopefully are moving back toward more normal services and hours by the beginning of July - but it's hard to make plans for that too far ahead of time because it seems that everything changes so quickly.

message 28: by Becka (new)

Becka I’m joining in! It’s been about 35 years since I read GWTW—I read it the summer before my sophomore year of high school. I saw the movie in high school as well.

Things are slowly reopening here in Ohio. I was happy to see my hairdresser this week to cover my grays! The thing I most look forward to is when the library will someday open so I can get the books I have on hold!

message 29: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (prairielily) | 26 comments I have not read the book nor seen the movie. I know the basic story and enough details for crossword puzzles.

Things are slowly reopening here in Saskatchewan. We are just opened non-grocery stores this week and are hoping for playgrounds soon.
The library is opening up for curbside pickup and drop off next week.

I am almost through with teaching online, it is not ideal for anyone. I am looking forward to the summer when I can just chill.

message 30: by Serena (new)

Serena Lawson (nthepages) (goodreadscomnthepages) | 1 comments My name is Serena and this is my first time reading Gone With the Wind! I love historical fiction and I love the film adaptation of this so I am really enjoying this so far! I must admit that I am intimidated by the length of this book but I’m going to push through!

I live in Nashville and work for a school and church in the area! I’ve been going in to work during the quarantine but only going to the grocery store outside of work. So I’m spending lots more time at home. I’m a bit of a homebody though and I love to read so I’m thrilled to have more reading time.

Looking forward to the read along!

Serena, nthepages

message 31: by Carla (new)

Carla Kolb | 15 comments I have never read the book and have never watched the movie in full.
I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We are in Phase 2 where our schools have gone back voluntarily (I am a supervision aide and we have half of our students back). Restaurants and Gyms have reopened with social distancing rules and some places we have to wear masks. I will be glad when this pandemic is over.
