Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments This is where you can post any deals you can find on audiobooks. Audiobooks are not cheap so, your contributions will help someone in need of a new read...er...listen.

So let's keep an ear out for sales shall we :)

Good one and may I add that if you have Kindle Unlimited you can borrow the book and add Audible narration for just $3.95!

I may do the free month of kindle unlimited just to load up on cheap Whispersyncs.

message 5: by Ms. Nikki (new)

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments It's totally worth it. Make sure you have change saved up. I went a bit crazy. You can even find some free ones ;)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4892 comments If you do the Unlimited thing, Eleven, you can get audible The Pines Trilogy by Blake Crouch and read and listen for free. I have got several good deals that way.

Do you then own the audible version or is that part of the monthly rental deal?

message 9: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4892 comments I believe when you return the book it gets removed from your library. You can have up to 10 Unlimited books at once, then need to return 1 for every one you try and add. You can pick which of the 10 you want to return though.

Kindle Unlimited seems worth getting just for the audible inclusion. I have free books coming out of my ass already but audio books are still pricey without the Whispersync option.

message 11: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4892 comments Audio books are sometimes super pricey. Occasionally, I will pick up the ebook just to get the deal on the audio version because even buying both is still way cheaper than buying just the audio. Figure that one out.

Yeah, you can have both for less than $10 or just the audio for around $25. The price structuring is mind boggling.

message 13: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments A bad narrator can kill a good book and sometimes you get what you pay for on cheap audio books but there are some good ones out there. These are a few cheap or free books I upgraded to audio for about $2 and was happy with, both the story and the narrator.

On the Lips of Children

Cannibal Corpse, M/C

Pines

No Such Thing as Werewolves

The Bird Eater

I'll post others when I remember them or come across more. It beats paying $15 per month for one book straight from Audible.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments Yeah, I'm surprised we have that program here but I'm glad we do. The local library sucks!

That's a front-end to Overdrive's system, which is available in many libraries through the US. Ebook and audiobook selection varies per library, so if you have multiple libraries near you, I suggest checking to see if the different libraries have different Overdrive inventories. Overdrive has a more mainstream selection than Amazon's Kindle Unlimited selection, which can be a disadvantage if you prefer works from independent authors.

message 24: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments yeah but if I can't find them there then I usually go to audible.

Clockwork by Philip Pullman is 99 cents today at audible. I'm posting from my tablet so sorry if the link doesn't work.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments Free: quality audio of At the Mountains of Madness. My Rue Morgue newsletter fed it to me and it sounds excellent. I usually have to read Lovecraft but this is well produced.

I think that movie got cancelled but I'm not sure. Tough to convert that story to film but del Toro could pull it off if anyone can.

"At the Mountains of Madness" was already made into a movie in 2004. It was called "Alien Vs. Predator".

Scot | 639 comments I signed up for this email a few weeks back and there is some quality content.
They offer three categories.
- listen and review (similar to NetGalley)
- sale priced
- whispersync
You can pick your genres and I've been getting one email a week.

Alissa (alissamerritt) | 141 comments Hey Tim, it's still new to me, but there is a good selection of horror to choose from...more print than audio, by far. I do have to supplement, but if I'm comparing it to netflix for media, it's very similar. So far, I'm enjoying it.
