Hello, I’m new to reading comics/graphic novels. I’m looking for suggestions for Batman graphic novels I should read. So far I’ve read Earth One Vol. 1, Batman and Son, Batman & Robin Vol. 1-3, Red Robin: The Hit List, The Killing Joke, Year One, The Court of Owls. I am currently reading The Long Halloween and have Dark Victory to read next. What else should I get to read this summer? I’d appreciate any suggestions, and if you don’t mind, why you like it.

Thank you! I’ve looked at a lot of essential Batman lists, and it’s nice to see something different. I’ll look into this one!
Well, I absolutely loathed the pile of hot garbage called Court of Owls (my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) so our tastes might not align, but I quite liked Batman: Hush and of course Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.
Thanks for the suggestions!I was really into the first half of The Court of Owls Vol. 1. Not so much the second half. I originally planned on reading the entire New 52 Batman, but I’m not sure anymore.
I’m reading The Long Halloween right now, and like it a lot so far. Hush and The Dark Knight Returns are both on my list to look into.
I did like all of the Grant Morrison stuff I read. Does anyone know if there’s a way to edit the name of the thread? I didn’t realize until after my it posted that I wrote “succestions” instead of suggestions.
Glad to hear everyone piling on Court of Owls and praising Grant Morrison.I can't imagine all that Red Hood stuff from Batman and Robin would make sense unless you'd read A Death in the Family, but as Batman stories go, I don't think it was great.
Batman: Under the Red Hood was pretty good.
DC keeps repackaging the O'Neil Adams Ras a Ghul stuff.
Definitely check out Batman Illustrated by Neal Adams, Vol. 3
I knew a little bit about Red Hood beforehand, but A Death In The Family is one I have on my Want To Read List. Thanks for the suggestions!
Maybe if I look from my computer, rather than the app. The Black Mirror is another one that’s in my Want To Read section. Thanks for suggesting!
A Killing Joke - More of Joker storySnow
The Cult
Not sure if you want to stick to purely the Batman or Detective Comics books, but if you want to venture a bit outside, check out Morrison's run on JLA, Batman is one of the key components of those stories. Pretty great stuff.
Thanks! I did read A Killing Joke. I forgot to add that to my list. I’ve heard of Cult but don’t know anything about it. I never heard of Snow. I’ll check them out.
For something with a different take:
Somewhat uneven stories (there are some gems in the four volumes that have been published so far), but the art is usually interesting.
Scott wrote: "Alex wrote: "Not sure if you want to stick to purely the Batman or Detective Comics books, but if you want to venture a bit outside, check out Morrison's run on JLA, Batman is one of the key compon..."Agreed! His takes on any of the "big 2" characters are always great and worth a read.
The best take on Batman I've found is the Superman/Batman teamup comic by Joseph Loeb. They're fantabulous, utterly true to the DC Universe but wow in originality as well. They were gathered into GN volumes, about ten of them, well worth seeking out.
