Basic Info & PointsWe read books of 160 pages or more to spell out our word using book titles, author names, series names, or characters. We have two weeks to spell out our word as many times as possible, and get points for how long each book is! EVERY book we read MUST be part of the spell out.
In addition, we can get points for 10 books with relevant tags for our wheel slice (books only need to be tagged once). Finding books with tags is a TEAM endeavour - it's 10 for the whole team, not each.
Individually we can also fill out books against the task list we have. Everyone has the same list but it is an INDIVIDUAL endeavour - we can all read a book with a yellow cover and claim the points. You can only read for each task once.
Finally! there are also points available for taking part in the BOM discussions. This is entirely OPTIONAL, but if the book appeals do consider reading it, or even volunteering to write a set of discussion questions - we get even more points if the randomiser smiles on us :)
Admin
I will set up a team reporting and planning sheet. You can either report a completed book here, or just update the sheet.
In either case you will need to record:
- the book title and author
- the page count of the book edition you read (or the default if you read an audio version / large print)
- the date you finished it
- the spell out letters and reasons (i.e. Simon char / Robert author / Expanse series etc)
- if it has one of the tags for the round
- the task you are using it for, with reason (if a book doesn't work for a task that's OK!)
General Stuff
Please make sure to pop into the thread at LEAST ONCE a week, so that we know you are still playing. Chat here about life, books, whatever, but keep it nice! If you have a question or problem bring it here or PM me / Stacie for help. Try to remember to shelve your finished books on your Wheels shelf.

Hey team! Welcome to Wheel-a-thon 5 and Team The Odyssey! I'm Deanna, and I'll be your captain for this tour. I've played a few rounds of Tower Teams and Wheel and am excited to play this round with you all over the summer.
Please introduce yourself and tell us what the best book that you have read this year is. Also please let us know your wheel shelf, so I can make the links are set up properly.
I live in Virginia and homeschool my two boys and occasionally help my girls with their college homework if they are really stuck. I'm horrible at picking a favorite book, but I'll go with Sweep with Me because really you can never have too many laughs from space chickens. Honestly I've been enjoying books from several series including Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, Damien Boyd's DI Nick Dixon, and Deleon's Miss Fortune Mysteries.

Hey Odysseyers! I'm Stacie, your co-captain for Round 5 of Wheel. This is one of my favorite challenges and I'm looking forward to playing with all of you. A little about me: I live right outside DC in College Park, MD with my husband and our four cats. I used to be a therapist but got so burned out, I switched it for the glamorous life of a survey statistician which is really a fancy way of saying I do support for a system used by the Census Bureau. When I'm not reading (which is rare), I'm playing board games, eating or playing video games. My favorite genre is Romance in most forms with Fantasy and Young Adult as genres two and three in my list.I'm on GR most of every week day and around at least on the app on weekends. Can't wait to get to know all of you!
Start hoarding those Xs and introduce yourself below.

Instead of favorite book, because I cannot choose one, I'll give you my last five star read that I can't stop thinking about.
Hi, I’m Namita. I’m in Vancouver, Canada. I love reading. I have never played Wheelathon. First time. I have taken part in Tower Teams. I love most genres but I can’t do Contemporary Romance or M/M.
Too many faves to count. I do love
My Shelf: Wheel-a-thon
Hello all! I'm Maria Jo. I've lived in Nebraska for almost a year, and was in Kansas before that. I taught 4th grade last year, and will be teaching 2nd this coming year. I love teaching, but I'm a little nervous to teach 7 year olds next year.I've played lots of team challenges before, but this is my first time participating in an NBRC challenge. I'm excited, because I've heard a lot of good things from other people about these challenges!
It's hard to pick a favorite book from this year... I think I'll have to go with Daughter of the Siren Queen. That was one series I had a hard time putting down.
My favorite genre is usually Mystery/Thriller.

Hi! I am Nicol. I live in California, US with my son, who recently turned 18, my partner, and our three wonderful dogs.I have previously worked as an elementary school teacher and in public libraries, but I currently work for the State of California, helping people get health insurance. (It’s not as fun as the library, but it’s full time and pays the bills.)
I read a variety of genres. The most recent book that I really enjoyed was Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
I have never participated in anything like this before and am a little intimidated, but also excited to get started!
My shelf: Wheelathon 5 Challenge
Hey Stacie! Welcome Namita, Maria Jo, and Nicol! I haven't read any books by Maas yet although my second DD has been encouraging me to give them a try.
I enjoyed a few books from Feehan's Leopard People and GhostWalkers series in the past, but haven't gotten to her Dark series yet.
I loved Daughter of the Siren Queen! I wish she would write more books in that series. I haven't tried any of her standalone books yet.
Americanah looks interesting. The author is new to me, but I do like to try books outside my favorite genres from time to time. It would work for the read a book with a brown cover task too. (That is the one cover color that I always have trouble finding.)
When I clicked on the genre tag fairy-fae that we have this first time around, I noticed Court of Thorns and Roses was listed and the author’s name starts with S, and it fits for the red cover task, too, so it looks like it could be a good one for someone to read, right?I haven’t read Sarah Maas yet either, but I have both Court of Thorns and Roses and House of Earth and Blood on my side table.
I picked out some other books from my tbr that will also work for this first round and now I’m all ready for next Friday!
Nicol wrote: "When I clicked on the genre tag fairy-fae that we have this first time around, I noticed Court of Thorns and Roses was listed and the author’s name starts with S, and it fits for the red cover task..."Look at you planning already! I love it!

I run a regional golf organization -- Women's Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania and I golf for fun with my friends. I have a husband and a yellow lab, Lizzi, -- and guess whom I like best!! :)
I read a lot of different stuff, but my favorite are creepy mysteries and thrillers. However, my favorite book this year was A Gentleman in Moscow
Looking forward to a fun time!!

Hi everyone! My name is Kaley and I live in Indiana with my fiance. We have two dogs and a cat. Our wedding is scheduled for October, pandemic permitting!I believe this is my third wheelathon (but I can't remember for sure!).
My favorite book I've read during 2020 so far (not counting my re-reads) is probably Meet Cute.
Look forward to reading with you all!

Deanna/Stacie, do I have to read books with the tags or just reading to cover the Spell-out would work? Please bear with me, first time playing.
Welcome Cheryl, Patti, and Kaley! Sorry for being slow to respond at the moment. My sister and her kids are visiting, so my internet time is pretty scarce.
Stacie wrote: "Reading to cover the word is enough. We do get extra points if we read for the tags though."Thanks Stacie. I do believe I’m understanding the challenge.
Namita wrote: "Stacie wrote: "Reading to cover the word is enough. We do get extra points if we read for the tags though."Thanks Stacie. I do believe I’m understanding the challenge."
Not a problem! You basically just read and fit the letters and try to get extra points where you can. Deanna and I will keep everyone updated on what we need. I hope you enjoy it!
That’s good to know. I do have a book to start with. It’s a tag just can’t remember which one at the moment. I’ll start off there and see how it goes.

I was just going to try to figure out how to edit my list to replace the text with the cover images like you both did, but I see that you already did that for me up top, Deanna. Thank you!! I'm pretty new here on Goodreads, so I'm still learning. : )
Hey team, Shelley here.I call Michigan home. Retired from teaching a few years ago. I have taught kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades, and 6th to 8th grade math. Long story.I'm looking forward to welcoming my first grandchild, a girl, in October.
My favorite genre - mystery, suspense, thriller - they are interchangable to me. But, I also like a little drama like Jodie Picoult. What can I say? I just love to read. I'm not into fantasy or paranormal. Sometimes I can do romance if there's some mystery or suspense thrown in - at least 80%.
My favorite book is usually the one I just finished. 😊
Undetected, When You See Me, Defending Jacob
This is only my second challenge. Looking at the basic info and points section is a little intimidating. Hence my shelf -
My shelf: Help a Girl Out
Excited and looking forward to this😎🤗
Hi Team!My name is Maha, im currently studying molecular biology in germany and when I'm not reading I love playing video games and pen & paper. This is the first challenge on goodreads I participate in and I'm really excited :)!
I enjoy most genres equally, but I especially love fantasy!

That’s what you use to add either the link or the book cover. Hope this helps.
I've collected all of the recommendations so far. Not all of the teams have book recommendations listed near the beginning of their threads, but I've collected and posted links to all of the teams that do underneath our recommendations.Book Recommendations Post
Is anyone else planning on participating in the Five Feet Apart BOM discussions? I'll be reading and was thinking of volunteering to write DQs, but if anyone else was planning to volunteer I can just be a backup.
