Hi All, last week I saw the Juneteenth Read-A-Thon on Facebook. It is June 19-June 20. It is a BIPOC themed read-a thon. For those of you interested in reading books by AOC and reading about racism this may be a good resource for you. There are so many good recommendations from the members. Also for me it is a chance to educate myself on racism. It is a time to be still, and learn. I have only seen this on Facebook not Goodreads but some of you may have more knowledge on the group than me. I know for sure I’ll be reading Between The World And Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates for my first book. Personally I’m keeping this to challenge to non-fiction. If this sounds like a resource or challenge you would like to participate in head over to Facebook and research the group.

This sounds fantastic, Sherri. I'm not familiar with the FB group but I'm going to aim to read Toni Morrison's BELOVED, and see if I can get ahold of any of Audre Lorde's poetry.
I hadn't seen the term BIPOC before and had to look it up. For anyone else who is behind the times, it stands for Black, Indigenous and People of Color. I had thought POC stood for all of that already. It is hard to keep up on the latest terminology, but I'm trying.
Love this! We just got Juneteenth designated as an official paid holiday at my new job so I plan to read a book by a Black author that day. Not sure which one yet, as I’ll be reading a few others before then, but I’m looking forward to it!

According to what I read, POC does cover all that already, but BIPOC emphasizes black/indigenous because they face the worst discrimination.
Ooh, super interested. Which book which book? I’m starting Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America probably tomorrow and it’s like 600 pages, so I’m not 100% sure I’ll be done by then, but I may have to pause that book to read another, shorter book for Juneteenth!
My local library just came through with a bunch of digital book purchases on racism. My holds alone increased with 9 that I had recommended for purchase. I'm going to start with Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches.
There are so many I want to read and I don't own many. However, I have a copy of Long Way Down waiting for me at my favorite used bookstore. I listened to the audiobook which was awesome, but also want to read it.
I will plan to purchase and read White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism and White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide in July or August. I'll make a note on my calendar to try to plan for Juneteenth reading in advance next year!
