I'm thinking realistic fiction. Maybe there's these two girls, one who comes from this really rich family and the other comes from a foster family?

So, on girl could be in a foster family, and they're super overprotective of her. The other girl is in a rich, prestigious family who neglects her. The two girls meet at school one day and have to sit next to each other in class because there aren't any other seats. So they're sitting there through this boring lecture, and Girl A gets a note from Girl B and the friendship sort of branches out from there. Eventually they both tell each other about their problems.

Okay! I like that idea! Hmm....how about...Chicago? Because I'm sorta familiar with Chicago (that is, I've been there before on a trip but don't live there).
I wouldn't know because I've never been to either of those places...
Potatos (ack, I mean Universe but Imma just give up on calling you Universe) what do you think? Because Jay and I both suggested cities...
I suppose we should probably do Houston since Jay's doing the research anyway...Now I'm thinking about how hot it must be there because it's hot here and I do not live in the south....ugh, is it really hot there Jay?
Well... I was going to suggest somewhere in Virginia, because Virginia has both country and city in it, and then we could make up our own city?

Wait...sorry, this is random and I betcha no one cares, but Jay lives in Houston....does that mean you are an Astros fan? (and yes I'm aware that a) most people don't care about baseball b) you don't have to like the team of the city you live in and c) this was very random, but I really had to ask. It was very important).

First thing you must know is that I am a Red Sox fan (view spoiler) This is important because the Red Sox were also accused and found guilty (sounds like a court trial or something) of cheating and these two things are connected.
So the Astros were accused of cheating in 2017, when they actually did win the World Series. They were accused late 2019 which is....very far afterwards but anyway. They had been cheating because when they had a batter up to bat they would watch the catcher's signs and when the catcher and the pitcher agreed on a pitch to throw, the Astros would bang on a trash can lid to tell the batter what pitch was coming. The person who devised this strategy was Alex Cora, who was, I believe (I'm not certain) the Astros' bench coach.
Move forwards to 2018...the Red Sox had an amazing year, in which they a) won the World Series and b) won 108 games, more than they'd ever won in a single season before. Now, guess who became the Red Sox manager over the off-season between 2017 and 2018. It was (shockingly) Alex Cora.
Both teams were accused of cheating in 2019, and Alex Cora immediately "parted ways" with the Red Sox, as did Astros manager A. J. Hinch. Both teams were found guilty of cheating, though it was much more serious for the Astros, as nearly the whole team was in on it. The Red Sox were cheating by reviewing videos of the pitchers and catchers to see how they pitched and stuff...and a lot of the team wasn't in on it. Also, both teams won the World Series the year they were cheating (I guess it works...)
Okay, side note, I don't like the Astros that much (nothing against you though!). a) they cheated (but so did the Red Sox so it sounds like I'm being a hypocrite--the Astros were cheating more seriously). b) the Astros and Red Sox have played against each other in the Post Season several times, as they are two of the very best teams in baseball (don't tell any other baseball fans that I said that! The Yankees are definitely up there though.).
Okay I promise that I'll try to stop talking about baseball.
