So very disappointing

I found this book so disappointing. Apart from the fact that it was about twice as long as it needed to be, at least I though she was addressing the moral questions inherent in the plot. WRONG It was just about "Could they get away with it" and once they did, it was all over. No longer any need to address our folly - all is looking rosy. What a cop out !

I found this an unputdownable pastiche of the sensational novel.

I actually quite liked the courtroom drama as it meant less of the unrealistic love affair between Frances and Lilian. I didn't get the feeling that either of them really cared for the other at all.

Kristine I think this was my biggest problem with it as well. Waters TOLD me they loved each other, but she sure didn't do a good job of showing it. ...more

I liked it less and less as I went along, finished it just because wanted to see where they would take it. I found the characters more and more annoying as it went along.

I did not like the book either. It was really drawn out. sometimes this type of writing works, but I too found it to be overly long & tedious in parts. I did not even get to the 'they did' part. I gave up.

Agreed. The first half of this book had so much potential, but the second just got bogged down in courtroom drama. Very very disappointing.

It began very predictably but soon everything changed. Nothing would I have changed. The relationship was fascinating and since reading had to remind myself who the lovers were. Kept me guessing to the end. Waiting on one more member of the book club to read and comment and it will most likely be a selection. I believe it will generate a lot of discussion.

It bugged me they didn't come clean when it happened. It was self defense.

My main complaint is that everything was twice as long as it needed to be. Earlier books by Waters such as Affinity are more tightly written.

oh, and I agree it was WAY longer than it needed to be.

i was disappointed in the ending, having just read a great murder mystery and being a huge Ruth Rendell fan :)
I read Peter Swanson's The Kind Worth Killing all in one sitting because you can't stop reading it and who in their left mind would put it down and lose the tension??
for what? dinner? no way :)

Enjoyed it to start with, liked the build-up of the relationship, but it all got a bit melodramatic.

This is the first book by this author that I've read and it's the last. It was horribly over-written (gave me word indigestion) and I thought the plot oddly disturbing and, ;quite honestly, what was it about? An ;innocent girl's introduction to lesbianistm or getting away with murder? Chuck it in the bin!
