You may have read Jackson's short story The Lottery for school - a story, that on publication in 1948 in The New Yorker, so outraged readers that many canceled their subscriptions or sent hate mail.

Intrigued? The Lottery as well as Jackson's other stories are some of funniest, most disquieting, and most horrific, perfectly crafted writing you'll ever encounter.

Listen to it here.

David (dassaf4) | 57 comments I shudder at the mere memory of reading the title story!

The New Yorker has it archived here: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/19...

Readers who like her stories should check out Jackson's novel The Haunting of Hill House, which is often ranked as one of the scariest stories ever written. A serialization is also currently streaming on Netflix.

Thanks David! I know, that story blows me away every single time. And so does Haunting! I just started watching the movie Shirley on Hulu. It is excellent so far!
