I have a few favorites from the middle grade/ children's lists. If you liked "Smile" the graphic novel from Raina Telgemeir, then definitely check out her new graphic novel "Sisters". For fiction, I highly recommend "The Night Gardener" by Jonathan Auxier and "Snicker of Magic" by Natalie Lloyd. Both are wonderfully written for those who like a bit of magic interwoven in a tale.
I just finished We Were Liars and up until the last few chapters I really thought I liked this book quite a bit. I'm entirely sure that a good number of readers will disagree with me; I 100 percent hated the big "twist" at the end.
I don't read a whole lot of adult books, so many of those don't mean a whole lot to me. Not surprised to see Nora Roberts several times. I disliked We Were Liars (thought the writing was too choppy). Rules of Summer is a very cute children's picture book! I've only heard good things about All The Light We Cannot See.
I plan to start "In the Kingdom of Ice" soon. Don't know if I'll finish it before the end of this challenge, but it sounded like something I'd be interested in, especially since I was completely engrossed by Shackleton's "South."

Thanks for the suggestions Jen. I read Smilie and Sisters and liked them both. I hadn't heard of the other two you mention and I look forward to checking them out.-Buff

I've seen Kingdom on Ice on a number of lists and also on the Read it Now shelf in the library. That is one I have been wondering about. Whenever you get into it I would love to hear what you think. - Buff

Thanks for posting. Nora Roberts is a big favorite for many. I have read a few of hers and liked them but it has been a while. I think the covers of her recent series are very well done - I love all books but especially appreciate pretty ones!

I actually have this one checked out at home for my teenage daughter. I"m glad you enjoyed it till the end...... I have read and heard very mixed things about this book. Twists can be wild!

From the Amazon's Best Seller's of 2014 I just listened to "The Lie" by Helen Dunmore about World War I and the story of two best friends who "marched away." This title was about the effect of war not only on the soldiers, but their families and small town, even long after the end of the war. It was not my favorite and very depressing even to the last sentence.I am looking forward to when my hold comes in for "All The Light We Cannot See," as I have heard good things about it.
I am over halfway through In the Kingdom of Ice and it is absolutely gripping. It reads like a novel and I have no idea how the crewman's tales will turn out. Does everyone survive? I love books like this, that allow me to find out pieces of history I was totally unaware of before. Definitely agree that it belongs on the Best Of lists for 2014.
I choose to read Amy Pohlers Yes Please. I thought it would be more akin to Bossy Pants. It did have some laugh out loud moments but I liked Bossy Pants much more. Does it deserve a 2014 best, yes she is a popular comedian right now and it was fun to read. Is it my favorite no.

I just finished listening to Yes Please yesterday. I agree with your comments about it and liked Bossy Pants better also. But it was a fun listen and made a long car ride feel a lot shorter. Now I want to watch Parks and Recreation!
