Homework Dog | 5 comments I read this book approximately in approximately 1975 or 1976. I remember the front cover: It was a hardcover book and it was ivory in color. The color was not bright...more on the line of watercolor for brightness. The front cover had a circus or carnival that had come to town in the background. There were also bubbles on the front cover.

This chapter book would have been for a 4th,5th or 6th grader.

I believe there were "tiny people" that lived in the grass. That is where my mind get a little foggy. There was a girl in the book. I'm not sure if the girl was from the circus and met the little village in the grass???

I know that is pretty vague...but I keep thinking about this book and am hoping somebody might be able to help.

Homework, please add details of plot and genre to your header which will get more people to click on it.

Homework Dog | 5 comments Hi, Thanks for the responses...I don't think it was the Borrowers or the Littles. If I remember correctly it wasn't part of a series.

I'll try to also add more to the header.

Rachel | 1527 comments It's a long shot but I don't suppose you are thinking of The Carpet People by Terry Pratchett? It was originally published in 1971 but the revised version which most people are more familiar with was published in the 1990s.

I don't remember anything about a circus specifically but it is about tiny people.

Homework Dog | 5 comments Thanks Rachel... I went and looked up The Carpet People...it wasn't that one, but I may have to check that one out. Thanks for your input.

Kokomomomo | 62 comments Another long shot because of the publishing year, but maybe Afternoon of the Elves?
Afternoon Of The Elves by Janet Taylor Lisle

Any chance the main character is a boy? For example...

Let Me Fall Before I Fly by Barbara Wersba?

Description on Amazon: "A lonely young boy discovers a tiny circus in his backyard and its people and activities become all the world to him."

Description on WorldCat.org: "A young boy is inconsolable when the tiny circus disappears that he watched perform daily in the grass."

Cover on LibraryThing:

Homework Dog | 5 comments Ayshe and Kris...I ordered Let Me Fall Before I Fly. I don't remember the main character being a boy, but it's worth checking out. Thanks for your recommendations...

Homework, was it "Let Me Fall Before I Fly" or are you still looking?

message 14: by Homework (new)

Homework Dog | 5 comments Thanks...I don't think it was Let me fall before I fly. I ordered a copy 2years ago, but it was so moldy I couldn't read it. I will try again...the cover art isn't quite what I remember. Thanks again.

Still looking now?

Knits Reads Games Sings (knitsreadsgamessings) | 32 comments Could it be Mistress Masham's Repose? It has a female main character, and was first published in 1946. Was the first thing I thought of when I saw this request.
