Hmmm... Interesting... I think it would be a good movie and that Matt Damon would be excellent as ususal! Was wondering if it would be too soon or too similar to Gravity, but Gravity did not have the excitement or action that this book does. I think I would go see it if it was a movie.
Yeah, I wonder how they would cut through all the science jargon in movie format. It kind of worked in the book because Mark is having a dialogue with the reader. Would 2 hours of voice over be just as interesting?I guess they don't need to go into the depth that the author did. Thoughts?
I am thinking there will be more of a focus on his snarkyness as well as the heroic rescue mission. In fact - I think the rescue mission only took the last 50 pages (the Hermes part of it at least) and that will probably be half of the movie.
One of the reasons I think they will reduce the % focus on him in the movie is that I finally saw something official about this online (November 27th at a theater near you!) and they have some other big names for the rest of the cast. They will probably want to make sure to have a lot of screen time for them, too.

Yeah, the rescue at the end was the most movie like part to me. Really all the stuff where it wasn't his logs I could see being a movie. And there's enough of it to be nearly a movie.
I am always so wary when they make a movie out of a book I enjoyed, but also excited, haha. I like Matt Damon, and wont judge his ability to play this character until after i have seen it, but at this moment it wouldn't be who I would picture playing him. Looking forward to it though.
Alex - and all - who would you like to see in this movie? (pretending we don't already know . . .)
I'm looking forward to the movie. Also, I was thinking about how I would do certain things if I was making the movie. I have to link back to Castaway again with Tom Hanks. Give him a character to talk to. Maybe WALL-E is there or some other talking robot. Or maybe for his own good humor he could put a smiley face on a potato. :)
There was a lot of talk in the book about him dealing with his personal waste. I could pass on seeing that on the big screen!
Vicki wrote: "Mmmmmm... He will always be Marky Mark to me... :)"Yeah, a smart ass "hoody" kind of guy. Perfect for Mark in the book. ;)

He heard they are making it into a movie with Matt Damon as Mark Watney.
