Ben Claymier (benji-man) | 17 comments I've had ADHD for the majority of my life, really since elementary school, and one of the most effective methods I have for coping with an overly active brain has always been to get that energy out physically.
For the longest time I just assumed it was a matter of tiring myself out so I could only focus on one thing at a time, akin to taking a dog for a walk so they behave better.

Well, as it turns out, there's a bit more science to that supposition than I initially thought, and it's all detailed here in Ratey and Hagerman's, "Spark." The authors had compiled various studies and evidence on physical activity and mental acuity, and have found a few surprising links between the two. Like a whetstone sharpening a knife, physical activities can help our mind manage their chemical balances, and help our neurons fire easier, clean up our synaptic networks, and overall help us think more clearly.

Hopefully this inspires you to get out or at least get active. Have you picked up any particular pointers on staying sane from something you've read lately? Tell us in the comments below!
