HeatherH (bkwrm85) | 599 comments Life got cray cray on days off. I got through ch 1-7 and that's it! I'm liking this world that Black created and how the vampires are a result of a virus and won't turn if they don't feed. Looking forward to getting further into this tonight.

Katie (love---katie) | 597 comments No worries, I've been busy too! I'll probably get caught up on my very long drive on Sunday :)

I think I'm about as far in as you are, and I agree the mythology behind vampires in this world is super interesting. It definitely started off with a bang, didn't it!

HeatherH (bkwrm85) | 599 comments It did! Loved being thrown right into it!

Katie (love---katie) | 597 comments I'm soooo far behind! I ended up listening to a road trip playlist on my drive instead of this lol. But I'm still really liking it so far! They just got into the coldtown and into the little house with Midnight and Winter's friends. As soon as the book mentioned that the guy made their drinks for them with his back turned, I knew it was bad news. Anytime a character drinks something they didn't see made, it's got some bad stuff in it for sure.

HeatherH (bkwrm85) | 599 comments Oh for sure. Always bad news!

Second half of this was so so good! Excited to see how it is for you :)

Katie (love---katie) | 597 comments Okay, I finished! I was able to listen to a ton of the audiobook while I was working today lol.

YES. that kiss between Gavriel and Tana was incredible! That type of stuff is what makes me wish Holly Black wrote adult books rather than, or at least in addition to, YA. If that's how she writes kissing, I can't IMAGINE how good sex scenes written by her would be, but I don't want to read about teenagers doing the deed.

I knew as soon as Midnight showed up she was gonna be bad news bears and I was RIGHT. To be honest, l thought she would end up playing a bigger role in the climax, but I'm glad she got what was coming to her.

The whole "declaration of love" thing threw me off at the end. I love love love that Gavriel was going to stay with her while she sweated it out, and yes, they've been through some trauma and that bonds people, but they've known each other like three days? Like he doesn't LOVE her?? It felt shoehorned in right at the very end, just because in 2013 YA books, you haaaad to have characters say they loved each other. I'm glad we've moved past that now.

HeatherH (bkwrm85) | 599 comments Yes! I wish she'd venture into adult fiction just once so we could see how amazing it would be written!

I feel like Midnight had more potential in the end but yes, glad she got hers. Would have enjoyed seeing her play a larger part though for sure.

It was definitely fast. I think I didn't notice it so much because I've read several from that era of insta-love recently - I think I've gotten used to it haha. But I did love him going in and staying by her side as she fought off the infection.

Katie (love---katie) | 597 comments Yes, I thought that was very sweet. Maybe someday we'll get lucky and get more in this world, see what happened to all of them. I like a good self-contained story as much as a longer series, but sometimes I want just a smidge more lol

HeatherH (bkwrm85) | 599 comments I agree!
