Natalie | 13 comments Has anyone gotten a book (or more) crossed off their list yet? Comment if you have! My book group is reading "Persepolis" so that counts for "a book set in a different country". I'm almost finished with it!

MaryAnn Sessen (merah) | 2 comments I just finished "The Most Dangerous Animal of All" which crosses off non fiction. I'm currently reading "Gone Girl" (and book made into a movie) and listening to "Mr. Fox" (book written by someone under 30.)

Natalie | 13 comments Ooh, what do you think of "Gone Girl"?

message 4: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 1 comments I started Outlander for the New Year after seeing the author speak at the Westerville Public Library back in November. My friend is obsessed with the series and loaned me the first two so I could, in her words, "catch up," and I'm already almost halfway through the first book!

I just finished "The Cinderella Murder" by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke to count as the Mystery/Thriller.

Chip Grimshaw (deafgeek) | 3 comments Managed to find a way to get all five books I've read through so far (yes, it is a bit of a crazy number, but there you go) to fit. So I've got one with a number in the title (Three Days to Never), a funny book (Fluke: Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings), one that a friend recommended (Annihilation), an author I've never read (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot), and a banned book (The Golden Compass). I think I may need to request Gone Girl from the library for one of my next ones, though.

Natalie | 13 comments That's great, Chip! How did you like "Annihilation"? That's the first in the Southern Reach trilogy so you've got 1/3 of a category done!

Kevin Moore (kevmoorewrites) | 4 comments Hi all! I'm Kevin. I lived in Perrysburg until last year when we moved to Maumee, but I still come back to Way since it's a very nice library! Hopefully this week I'll be able to cross "A Nonfiction Book" of my list. I'm wrapping up Napoleon: A Political Life by Steven Englund. I'm thinking I'll go for lighter fare for my next read.

I read Gone Girl last year. It was very good. It definitely kept me intrigued. But I will say that by the end I hated both characters.

Natalie | 13 comments My book group is reading Isabel Wilkerson's "The Warmth of Other Suns" - that's my book for "over 500 pages". Very excited to read and discuss it!

Lexi Haas | 1 comments I see you can "double count" books? feels like cheating to me but we'll see :) I read "The Good Girl" and "Duff" this weekend- Duff was definitely the better one. now to figure out what category to put them in...

Kevin Moore (kevmoorewrites) | 4 comments I just finished The Prince by Machiavelli for work so I'm going to count that as my book originally written in another language. I'm in the middle of an interesting book called The Asylum by John Harwood about a woman in Victorian England who's locked in an asylum while someone else seems to have assumed her identity in the outside world. This will probably be my book by an author I've never read before (or at least I think that's a category). So far it's pretty good. Harwood nails the Victorian voice perfectly.

Natalie | 13 comments I'm going to check out "Asylum" - that's right up my alley! Thanks for the recc! I just finished "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins. That counts as a book with a love triangle. It was a pretty creepy modern-day British thriller.

Asylum I felt just ended up being so-so. Kind of boring, in my opinion. But I'd be interested to see your thoughts.

In other progress, I can scratch off a book with a one word title. I read Stranded by Alex Kava. It's a murder thriller about a highway serial killer starring Kava's recurring character FBI agent Maggie O'Dell. It was decent and good paced albeit a little anticlimactic at the end. I look forward to next reading a book with a number in the title: 41 by George W. Bush, a memoir about his dad.

How is everyone else coming along? :)

Katie (kellmuk) | 3 comments I've read 5 on my list so far. I just finished "Way Below the Angels" by Craig Harline which counts for a book set in another country. I read "Paper Towns" for a book set in high school, "Capote" for a book with more than 500 pages, "When Evil Came to Good Hart" for a book by a female author, and "Something Other than God" for a book based on a true story.

Natalie | 13 comments You guys are doing so great! I finished "The Warmth of Other Suns", so that's my book with more than 500 pages. I also read "The Girl on the Train" so that counts for a book with a love triangle. I'm thinking I'll do "Authority" for the one-word title (the second book in the Southern Reach trilogy). Any recommendations for a book with antonyms in the title?

How did you like Paper Towns? I read that and did not really like it-hoping the movie is better.

message 17: by Katie (new)

Katie (kellmuk) | 3 comments Hi Rebecca, I thought it was OK. I liked the mystery part of "Paper Towns" in some ways better than I liked "The Fault in Our Stars." It will be interesting to see what they do with the movie, though.

Kevin Moore (kevmoorewrites) | 4 comments I just finished "Sex on the Moon" by Ben Menzrich knocking out my "book based on a true story." It's about a NASA intern/moron who stole moon rocks in 2002 and got caught when he tried to sell them to a buyer he met online who was really working with the FBI. It was an interesting read. Most reviewers complained his writing is overly colorful at times, and I'd have to say they're right. On to the next!

I finished "Old Fashioned" as a book that was made into a movie. Still have to see the movie to see how it compares!

message 20: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl | 3 comments I am an avid reader and have about 20 marked off my list thus far. you can check my 2015 folder to see my books. If you have questions let me know. :) I will be asking for suggestions soon!

Cheryl | 3 comments Does anyone have a good Scary, bad review, and banned book they would recommend?

message 22: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 13 comments I'm reading "This House is Haunted" and it's getting scary (sort of Dickensian Victorian Gothic scary). It's really well written.
