Mary | 15 comments Hey all, I'm starting a new feature soon at Dragonfly.eco that will freely promote and feature self- and indie-published authors writing fiction that centers on ecological issues such as climate change, water, animals, pollution, and so on. Good storytelling in this field of literature is unique and interesting, not preachy. Your novel or short story must already be published by you or a small indie press and have minimally 10 positive ratings on book sites such as Goodreads. Your story must be well-written, engaging, and free of typos and grammatical errors.

Dragonfly focuses on world ecofiction, and prefers to explore diverse places, people, and cultures while talking about this literature. All genres accepted, including science fiction, Afro- or Africanfuturism, solarpunk, literary, magical realism, historical, contemporary, etc. Just shoot me an email: editor@dragonfly.eco.

I will do these features every few weeks and, to make things consistent, will have a five-question interview via email. This gives you, the author, a chance to talk about your background and your story.

Note that Dragonfly.eco is a voluntary project and is not motivated by profit--only creating awareness.

Thanks for this endeavour! We all should help one another.

Mary | 15 comments I am going into the fourth feature in October, so it's been working out well!

See https://dragonfly.eco/submit-a-book-s... (look for Indie Corner) if you are interested in submitting your book. If your novel/short story does not fit into the indie market, there are other ways to promote your stories; see the link above. All promotion is free, but there are a few notability requirements.

Looks good, Mary. Only sticking point is the need for 10 positive reviews on GR.
I'm reading as fast as I can, folks, but I'm back in college.

Ryan Mizzen | 9 comments Hi Mary,

This sounds really fantastic, thank you for promoting eco-fiction to a wider audience in this way. I've just released my first self-published children's picture book: Hedgey-A and the Honey Bees. As soon as I reach 10 reviews, I'll be in touch!

This book is the first in the 'Time to Care' series which explores a range of environmental issues through anthropomorphism, and is targeted at 5-7 year olds.

Thank you again for creating Dragonfly and helping spread the word to the world.

Hi Clare. I think having some good reviews/ratings is pretty normal for promotion. This is a volunteer project on my part, and I also cannot read every single book, though do ask for samples, so I have to rely on some notability, whether it's reviews in the press or ratings and reviews on either Amazon or Goodreads. I think this is a normal and reasonable request for promoting others' books.

Hi Mary,

I'm very interested, I've been following your Facebook page for a few years and I'd love to ask for a review. I'm currently at 5 Goodreads reviews and I have 4 on Amazon's global stores, plus one blogger review on FB. If I can send you evidence, would these qualify, or would you prefer me to wait until I get to 10 just on Goodreads?

Thank you for running such a fantastic page and website, I'm a big fan! :)

Mary | 15 comments Hi Ryan, Sounds pretty good! Can you email me? I think a combination of reviews and a blogger review is sufficient. My email is at the top right corner of dragonfly.eco. It's the mail icon. :) I appreciate your support of the site!

N.R. Baker | 9 comments Wow, Mary - congrats on creating such a great resource! There's so much to explore on the Dragonfly website. I've already started telling others about it.

I'd love to collaborate. My eco-thriller, "10:59" was published last year by a small indie press and currently has 102 ratings on Goodreads, with an average of 4.47.

Opportunities to promote the book via Dragonfly will be extremely welcome. Blowing my own trumpet is the part of being an author that I really struggle with, but I'm also well aware that people won't read my book if they don't know it exists!

Sorry, I didn't see this before. I haven't been on Goodreads for a while. You can email me at the email listed at the site!

Geoffrey Wells | 2 comments Hi Mary. Thanks for letting the world know about eco-literature. Fiction can help the planet heal---it must! (I have submitted by book on your website.)

The Drowning Bay I would like to introduce my eco-thriller, The Drowning Bay. To date the book has 14 reviews averaging 4.6 out of 5 stars.

“Both delicate and powerful, The Drowning Bay is a thrilling ecosuspense that weighs personal accountability against a global responsibility.”
~Lauren Rico, award-winning author of the Reverie trilogy, a psychological thriller series, set in the world of competitive classical music.

Summary:
Allison’s freedom after getting out of prison hinges on keeping a secret from an adopted refugee boy. His mother is missing, but with the hacking skills that sent her to prison, Allison discovers the activist’s unpublished blog—the boy’s mother is never coming home.
To win her back Allison’s grieving ex-boyfriend breaks his commitment to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and joins her search to reunite the activist with her son. But a treacherous detective in the pocket of an unscrupulous developer is planning to have them join the body that floats with the fish and osprey in the poisoned bay.
Can Allison learn about belonging from the tides of the lost ecosystem? Can she find freedom?

“Geoffrey Wells has done it again! THE DROWNING BAY is compelling from beginning to end. This book, the third and last in Wells' Trilogy for Freedom, continues Allison's story as she tries to rebuild her life after her time in prison. She soon finds herself on a suspenseful trip into the world of ecological terrorism. Wells is adept at mixing genres, so there is plenty here for fans of thrillers, suspense, romance and action. One of the things I enjoy most about Geoffrey Wells' books is that I am entertained and educated, while also prompted to think about some interesting ideological questions. While reading THE DROWNING BAY, I thought a lot about the topic of law-breaking for the greater good, and whether altruism at large is more important than those people in your inner circle. I can't recommend THE DROWNING BAY highly enough!"
