In honour of International Friendship Day in August, these prompts are based off 8 different types of friends that we may or may not need in our lives. Choose how many prompts you would like to read for this challenge and let the leader know your goal. One book can only satisfy one prompt. Happy reading!

1. A Loyal Best Friend: Someone who always has your back, no matter what. Read a book about someone who is loyal.

2. A Fearless Adventurer: This friend likes to pull us out of our comfort zone and help us take risks. Read a book about someone taking a risk.

3. A Brutally Honest Confidant: Someone who will tell you how it is, regardless of your feelings about the topic. Read a book where honesty may or may not be the best policy.

4. A Wise Mentor: Someone who can help steer you in the right direction and offer great advice. Read a self-help book.

5. A Friend From A Different Culture: Someone with different beliefs or background to you. Read a book that focuses on a different culture to your own.

6. A Polar Opposite: Someone that has people saying 'how do they get along so well'. Read a book involving an unlikely friendship.

7. A Friendly Neighbour: Sometimes, those who we see every day can become our closest friends. Read a book borrowed from or recommended by someone who is close to you.

8. A Work Pal: Like above, if we see them every day, we are likely to befriend them. Read a book involving a work relationship of any kind.

Thanks to Ashleigh for creating and volunteering to lead this challenge!

Just completed #1 (loyal friend) - Lock Every Door by Riley Sager. Really good thriller! I liked the back story for the main character and the supporting characters were good too. Not quite as tense as the author’s first book, but it’s still an enjoyable read! 4 stars

Just completed #7 (recommended) - All Grown Up by Jami Attenberg. I’m disappointed in this book. Maybe I would have loved it when it first came out, but the main character just seemed so incredibly self-absorbed, I couldn’t stand it. There were nuggets of truth in here, and the writing was excellent, so I still finished it. But I was glad when it was over. 2.5 stars

Just completed #6 (unlikely friendship) - Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman. This book was stressful in the best way possible for a suspense novel. It kept me guessing for most of it, and even when I figured it out, I still really enjoyed the pay-off. Good character development. Worth reading! 4 stars
