I see that some have already started this, so I figured I would get the first impressions discussion going!

Kandice | 944 comments When are we actually supposed to begin? Is this our July book? Time has become this melted wax like concept with everything going on right now!

I thought being back in the office would at least help me keep track of the days of the week, but since I am in the office three days, at home two, and still basically on call the other two, it hasn't helped. I never realized how important a routine was to me.

:) I know what you mean!

It is the "July" book - but that is not a strict timeline. It is just that I don't usually start publishing the chats until the month starts. But, I say, if you are inspired to read in the midst of your slump, go for it!

I have seen some book clubs out there that are very strict about timelines, discussions, participation, etc. I try to the the "anti" that! Just have fun and read! :D

Kandice | 944 comments I am actually in a few that are pretty strict, so I don't post that I am currently reading a selection until we are supposed to, even though I usually read early! I love that this group is laid back so that the reading never feels like a chore.

I also appreciate that you never call anyone out for non participation. ;-)

Yes! I saw one where they were kicking everyone out who had not participated in the past 30 days. Blew my mind - I was like CHILL!

I think the group ended up disbanding shortly after that - Karma? You know what they say it is!

I will NEVER pressure people or put strict rules on the group. Another one I have seen is "Don't vote in polls unless you are actually going to read the book". @^#^ THAT! If you want to vote - vote! I don't care if you read the book or not. I have left a few groups when things got too strict like that - NO FUN!

Okay - gonna climb down off this soapbox now . . .

Kandice | 944 comments I have to admit that I thought this was going to be a loser for me. Now that I am halfway in... I am in love. You should have warned us this was a ROMANCE!

I always say I don't care for romances, and then I'll read one that's original and unique and it becomes a favorite. I think this one will be.

I had no idea! Huh!? Wow!

And, glad you are enjoying!

Kandice | 944 comments It's beautiful! Once you get past the dry beginning. And I will never look at a post script the same way again.

Good choice!

Kandice | 944 comments This is KILLING me! I actually felt tears as I listened last night. I rewound, which is something I try to never do if I am listening to an audio book.

Oh, Matthew!

Kandice | 944 comments Also, I will be looking up quotes (I'm listening so can't highlight) because the language is so beautiful. In a very violent way. That sounds like an oxymoron, but I promise it isn't.

Ella | 67 comments I’m very excited to get this book now, not really reading past the second chapter at the moment but ordered this one in hope. Can’t wait for it to arrive!

I can't wait to hear what everyone else thinks. I tend to have less than mainstream tastes fairly often.

Wow! It sounds so powerful - I cannot wait to start. So glad someone recommended it to me and I decided to share it with the club!

Ella | 67 comments It got delivered early so started it today, the writing is like poetry, it’s really very beautiful

It took me a few letters to like it, but then I fell in love.

Stephanie Dique | 49 comments I’m a quarter way through and this book is INCREDIBLE so far! Thanks for this pick, Matthew! It is keeping me so entranced. The writing is so intensely full and deep that I’m glad actually I didn’t audiobook this one. I have it as an E-book and I find myself reading super slow, savouring each word.

Pretty unique and odd story. It does take a bit to get used to. In fact, I listened to the first hour and fifteen minutes or so of it twice. Glad I did, because I felt it starting to click the second time through and I know I had failed to connect a bunch of parts presented at the beginning.

Yes - and I already only have about an hour left. Gotta love novellas!
