A Crazy Little Thing Called YA discussion

Hi guys! I'm super excited to start this one, I like the musical, so hopefully this stands up to it!

No im not, sadness. Im planning to see if I can get it somewhere else though

I'm going to be starting this one tonight, I'm excited to see what you guys think of this!

Up to Chapter Three

(view spoiler)[ I'm liking this so far. I'm a big fan of Eliza's character, I love how she stood up to her mother about the dress. It's funny, the way she talks about having no interest in Hamilton, because we know they end up together. (hide spoiler)]

Up to Chapter 6

(view spoiler)[ Yikes, he just got put in his place. Got to admire the sisters for that one! Definitely not how I imagined their first meeting going down, what happened to my dreams of a nice dance in the ballroom? I have to feel kind of bad for Hamilton though, after all, he was just the messenger (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Yah, I'm still liking Eliza's better than his. I'm hoping that she doesn't lose that attitude, I love her sass. So different than the normal YA character fawning over a guy the second she sees how hot he is (hide spoiler)]

Up to Chapter 8

(view spoiler)[ Darn it, I don't want a time skip. I was quite the fan of watching her embarrass him and him having to take it to be proper. So nice to see the guy being the one to become infatuated, instead of the girl. That scene where they all ganged up on Peterson as amazing, the sisters are great at putting people in their place. Up to Page 131

(view spoiler)[ Daydreams?? *gasp* She's been thinking about him?? Normally I'm not a fan of super quick romances, but I want Eliza to acknowledge her feelings. It's painful to watch Hamiltonbumble over ever step without any return on his affections. I am really enjoying the fact that Eliza is written as an independent woman, and not a damsel in distress (hide spoiler)]

Up to Chapter 20
(view spoiler)[ I'm really enjoying seeing a different side of each of the sisters. in the musical, we get to see a lot about Hamilton, and the sisters are just props. Seeing them characterized is so interesting, especially with how they fought against social expectations. I'm happy that Peggy found someone she wants to be with, and it's even better that he has a fortune. I feel bad for Angelica, I know it was common back then, but I can't imagine marrying someone I didn't love. I'm really liking this book so far (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 24

(view spoiler)[ I'm really happy that Eliza is finally acknowledging the fact that she has feelings toward Hamilton. I appreciate the fact that she is continually portrayed as a strong woman, and she isn't scared to go to the infirmaries and talk to the the soldiers. What the heck is Angelica's problem? I understand that she was talking for the parents, but she's even thinking about eloping, so it's not like she is too concerned about what they think. Some of her jibes are just a bit too personal, and if her parents don't approve of her marriage, she has no reason to talk (hide spoiler)]

up to chapter 32

(view spoiler)[ I'm so happy shes getting out of that marriage, the entire Livingston family are pricks. The way the sister talked and treated them just screamed spoiled brat, and I dont think I even have to mention the son's problems. I do wish we could've seen Eliza escape from him without help, but I'm happy that her and Hamilton are back together. I wasn't too big of a fan of their pining for each other. I'm kinda hoping that Hamilton kills him, he completely deserves it. Stephen is growing on me a bit. (hide spoiler)]

Finished

(view spoiler)[ I enjoyed this, some of the moments made me smile. The moment when Alexander finally proposed to Eliza was the cutest, and I loved how this wasn't complete insta-love, or at least it was, but they weren't instantly together. I liked the characterization of the sisters. I do wish that we had gotten a bit more closure, I'm not sure how well the other books in the trilogy will be (hide spoiler)]

Is this book good? I really love the musical and I'm debating whether to read it...

I enjoyed it, it definitely explored the sisters a lot more. If you're a fan of contemporary fluff, I would reccomend it. there's down great banter
