Lee | 708 comments 1. Book- The pages felt like magazine pages, smooth.
2. Favorite was Coincoin, because of her determination.
3. "One day, Mamas dream will happen! One day, we shall be free again! Free! And proud! And Noble!"
4. I couldn't complete the ending.
5. Yes, for those who have or want to read Cane River also.

2. My favorite was Coincoin because of her strength and courage against all odds.

4. I did not find the ending very satisfying because the last part of the book felt like the story just went on and on. I did not connect with the last few characters

5. yes I recommend to those that want to read about the history of Cane river

the author did a great job telling the story of 4 generations of a family from slavery to owning the place in Louisiana. my favorite characters were Francois, Fanny, and Coincoin. some parts were hard to read because the author gave so much detail, I had to read several times to get a full understanding. the character detail held my attention the entire time.
