hello! I'm doing ok, considering. I'm reading girl with the dragon tattoo right now, it's not bad, I'm not a huge fan of murder mysteries. I'm kinda excited to read the long earth series cause my mom accidentally bought me just the last book and I gotta go buy the rest. Been reading some Angela Davis lately too
Oooh I really enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! I found it quiet heavy in some places and it wasn't very easy to read, in-fact I remember skipping a few pages because I couldn't take in those words. How powerful words on paper can make you make feel so strongly repulsed! I do enjoy books which make you feel so much emotion.
I haven't read the long earth series or any of Angela Davis' work, do you recommend any?

It was good! Yeah there were a couple spots that were really intense, the writing was quite good, like matter of fact with decent imagery, and that always makes it much more unsettling to read. I don't often read mysteries or detective stories so it was a nice change of pace. Also it was so shocking to me to read violence again, I used to read some fucked up books when I was a lad but they haven't been in my stack for years. Yeah I do too, I hadn't read a book that got real in awhile. It's just a fairly decent sci-fi series. Women, Race & Class is the classic one, she also does alot of like long essays too
I'm a chronic reader of murder mysteries, or some thrillers, I guess they get classified. I gravitate away from true crime, or too much graphic violence - except I read a lot of James Patterson's books, and a few of them are a bit edgy for my taste. Just finished The Girls in the Garden and Orphan Train. Am in the middle of Tattooist of Auschwitz, and of Trust No One.
Do you have any favorites Nadine? I don't know anybody that reads many of those stories so I'm starving for recommendations, I love variety
I recommend Orphan Train, as a change from what it sounds like you've been reading. When you'd like another fantasy read, I enjoyed The Name of the Wind by Rothfuss.
James Patterson's Along Came a Spider is so much better than the movie.
Ok, Thanks! Name of the Wind was Fantastic, I really enjoyed The Slow Regard For Silent Things too. I don't think I've read Patterson before, I'm doing a big book buy soon
I’m reading The adventures of Arthur Conan Doyle. I’m not usually one for biographies but it appears he led an interesting life, writing 1500 letters to his mother, including his accounts of an affair, his work as a doctor for the Red Cross and his conversion to spirituality. I love books and find my self fascinated by authors, and their unique ability to take us various journeys...
Hello! Well this bookclub has gained new members recently so lets introduce ourselves and have a lovely chat.
My Names Matilda, well actually my real name is Aimee, I set up this account 9 years ago with an online alias because I didn’t have much confidence as myself. I’m very happy to say i have much more confidence now and I’m happy with who I am but I love this little goodreads account and wanted to keep it the way it is. I’m 26 years old and I will be planning on applying to Veterinary Science this September. I live in North west England with my partner, a little patter dale and 3 guinea pigs.
I adore reading, I tend to stick to fiction (Ideally something with magic, witches, goblins and dragons). But that’s what I love about reading books collectively, I get to branch out and hear interesting and differing opinions.
Over the past year reading has kept me sane, it has been extremely comforting to hide away and delve into new worlds when it sometimes felt like out world was falling apart. My favourite book of the last year was All things wise and wonderful by James Herriot.
Please introduce yourself, How are you? Where are you joining us from? What was your favourite book of last year?

Hi I'm Billie.I'm reading Last Day Alive (Detective Kimberley King Book 2)
by J.R. Adler.
I love it and will probably finish it today!
Hi from New Zealand! I'm Elizabeth and I'm 48 (profile pic from when I was 47, lol) Been married, never had kids but raised his four darlings. Now I live on my own with my labrador who is the love of my life. My degree was in English and I work in Education as an Executive Assistant. I enjoy knowing that in the up and coming generations there are still people who love reading!
I can relate to the reading keeping one sane! Especially over the last year and a half I just lose myself in a good read every day. I enjoy all kinds of fiction, classics, thrillers and women's lit have been favourites for a while.
I read a lot of childhood favourites last year but my favourite new read of the year would have been 1984 by George Orwell. It just blew my mind!
Great group Matilda { Aimee :) }

Hello Ella, lovely to meet you! I haven't read the actor series, what are they about? I absolutely agree with you on reading sad books, every single time it amazes me how deeply an author, a human being that I've never met can make me feel so strongly just from mere words on a page. I sometimes save very sad books for when I feel ready, I actually have one I've saved right now called Call Me by Your Name.

Hello Elizabeth from all the way over there! Yes I had the same experience reading 1984, I thought it was going to be a boring old classic that was overly hyped but that couldn’t be further from the truth, so relevant and modern it blew my mind too! In fact maybe I should get the audiobook soon I bet it’s even more bizzare to read through this pandemic.

Gidday! I found it so on point to how the world is developing. Scary big brother is actually watching and how will our lives be in the future? Hopefully positive.....I always have hope in humans despite all the negative!
Hello everyone. Thank you Aimee for adding me to the group. I have very recently joined Goodreads.
In my past life I was an IT postgrad in Aus, had a job n all. Currently I am not working, just trying to figure out what I wanna do with my life hereon.
I like reading thrillers, mysteries, locked rooms, true crimes (esp about some of the most notorious psychopaths n sociopaths). I have read some gore horror too but I would like to keep it to the minimal now.
Outside of Lotr n HP series, I can't say I have read much fantasy either. Yet to come across a kind of thriller mystery that blows my mind off completely.
This is me for now :)
