Fridey | 283 comments I listened to A Dream of Ebony and White by Melanie Cellier and The fairest Beauty by Melanie Dickerson. I really liked both of them but those that crave more adventure and gore might find them a bit...calm. Personally, I thought that the narrator for A dream of ebony and white was much better than the fairest beauty.

Fiona Hurley (fiona_hurley) Very creepy and definitely not suitable for children, but Neil Gaiman's short story Snow, Glass, Apples is great. It takes the viewpoint of the "wicked" queen, but Snow White is very much the villain of the piece.

A Dream of Ebony and White: A Retelling of Snow White and The Fairest Beauty are both really good books! I read them the first time, but I've listened to the audiobooks too. The narrator for A Dream of Ebony and White is Australian so some of the pronunciation irked me, but I liked both narrations.
It was really cool listening to an Australian accent actually. The two narrators have different styles and I've never really thought about which narrator I liked better. Thanks for bringing up an interesting point. :)

Fridey | 283 comments :) Well I'm one of those weirdos that seldom like the same narrators as everyone else, lol.

But I didn't know that the narrator for A dream of Ebony and White was Australian. All my ears heard was British, lol.

That's me with books haha. All my friends are raving about Throne of Glass and I'm just there with my fairytale retellings. LOL

Yeah the author of that book is Australian so she chose to have the recording done in her home country. Her books are written in US language though since her audience is mostly from the US. (I've been a devoted fan of hers for many years so I've picked a few things up. :) )

Fridey | 283 comments Aha, author's Australian too. Didn't know :)

Yeah I like Melanie Cellier's books. I started with beyond the four Kingdoms. I have one book left in the series.

Omg, The Princess Search is one of the best books I've ever read. Not even lying. Hope you love it as much as I do!

Her second fairytale series is great too. But I think after a Captive of Wing and Feather, her fairytale retellings aren't as good. I hope you feel differently though! :)

Fridey | 283 comments I can't wait to get to get to the Four Kingdoms series. I have only read one, the first one which was Princess companion.

Should the Four Kingdoms be read in order, you thing?

The rest of the series is slightly different in its own way from The Princess Companion I believe. The other books are a lot more action packed and more adventure based.

I definitely think the Four Kingdoms should be read in order. Read the novellas too! They're short, but sooo worth it! They're about the main side character's romances. I was reading one and I was like ten pages in when I thought, "I don't see how she can get out of this! I really can't..." and then everything unfolded and worked out, but it made perfect sense! It takes a lot to accomplish such a feat within 64 pages.

Fridey | 283 comments Thanks for that info :)

The audiobook company I subscribe to (Storytel) has finally filled up with more of her books, including some of the shorts ones. I was happy to see that. Initially they only had Beyond the four Kingdoms.

Excited (grinning).

I'm so happy that you're so excited! Join me in the fandom lol.

Same here! I have Hoopla and Melanie Cellier announced that she's in the process of getting all of them converted to audiobooks. I hope one day she'll be able to offer hardback covers. Her covers are so beautiful aren't they?!

Yeah the covers are sooo pretty!

I love how accurate the covers are to the stories. You can find each dress on the cover of the Four Kingdoms series inside each respective book at least once. And they're accurate to the style and character it describes! (chief's kiss)

I don't own any paperbacks yet but I'd like to. Especially these. Pictures not really the same on a kindle, although it's a whole lot easier to read.

I love that series too! So happy you're enjoying them too :D

✧Bella✧ | 21 comments I just read Fairest Son, a noveela length, gender-swapped faerie retelling, and I think it's my new favorite Snow White retelling. Of course, I still love Winter. The only snow White reteling I've read besides those two was Melanie Dickerson's, which I didn't care for as much.
