Random suggestion to read: Spindle

Ella Ferris (eferris) | 226 comments Spindles End by Robin Mckinnley is really good. Also the Healers Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson.

Kelly (kluvs2read) I just finished reading "The Rose Princess" by Ivy Hollins, a Sleeping Beauty retelling and really enjoyed it! Has anyone else read this one yet?

message 4: by Kindra (new)

Kindra B I haven’t read any of those, but I am looking them up now.

I just finished one called Kiss of the Spindle by Nancy Campbell Allen and really enjoyed it. She had a very creative take on the sleeping beauty story. It is a steampunk romance novel which I enjoyed more than I expected to.

I was just about to recommend Kiss of the Spindle too! I'm so glad someone beat me to it haha. I love how it takes place in a steampunk universe with shapeshifters. The story is complex, tension/action packed and the romance sweet and touching. (It's clean by the way in case you want to know. :) )

Carina Shephard (carinashephard) | 127 comments Dagger's Sleep by Tricia Mingerkink is really good! It's a clean genderbent Sleeping Beauty retelling.

message 7: by Fridey (new)

Fridey | 283 comments I just read the blurb on that one just now. Caught my interest. I just saw I had it on my subscription. :) :)

Fridey | 283 comments LOL...just, just and just. I really wish the app had the Edit option. (Early morning over here).

It turns out, I already have Dagger's Sleep: A Retelling of Sleeping Beauty by Tricia Mingerink on my want to read list! Haha. It's in Hoopla too! :D

Man this is so relatable. I've debated deleting the app because it's so annoying sometimes lol.

Fridey | 283 comments It's owned by Amazon so they should really step it up.

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) | 218 comments Oh my gosh, I'll say it till I'm blue in the face: Malice by Heather Walter!

I don't think I've come across a version so interesting that added so much without losing any of the heart of the story. Just so pretty!!

I also really enjoyed Neil Gaiman's The Sleeper and the Spindle. It's a very short graphic novel, but it's fun!

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely look into them!

Faith Anderson Twisted Dreams by Morgan Elizabeth Huneke is a shorter, sci-fi/fantasy SB retelling that I would definitely recommend

Gotta appreciate a pretty cover that fits the cook to perfection. *chef's kiss* By the way, did you enjoy the book? I'm looking for a book to read right now.

message 24: by Faith Anderson (new)

Faith Anderson Yes, as far as I can remember, I really enjoyed it! (It's been a little while silence reading it). Fairest Son by H.S.J. Williams is another one I would definitely recommend (my favorite❤) but I think I already did XD

Ohh okay thanks. I'll be sure to read it.

I think I've heard of Fairest Son by H.S.J. Williams actually. This one looks interesting too! Lol a fan girl's conundrum. Thanks so much for all these new books yay :D.

message 26: by Faith Anderson (new)

Faith Anderson No problem!

message 27: by Nerdy Werewolf (new)

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) | 218 comments I forgot about this little gem that came out recently:

A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow (who is a local author in my area!!)

This one is a novella that explores the tropes of fairy tales through Sleeping Beauty. It's written almost like someone's diary that you mistakenly picked up. It was actually very uplifting!

Oh I see. Thanks for letting us know about it! I've read another book similar to it where the story was told through letters. Very interesting! And it's great when you find an author that is local. :)

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) | 218 comments I know, right? There's something special about knowing you're supporting someone that lives in your area. Especially when they've got the talent to back it up!
