I read "House Arrest" by K. A. Holt. It's a fiction story written in poetry form about a 12-year-old under house arrest after stealing a wallet. By court orders, he has to journal every day, and this book is his journal.
I love this book. I highly recommend it. It deals with serious medical, financial, and family problems (and the just the angst of being 12) and at times it made me laugh out loud.
Annie Proulx writes the most surprising, interesting short stories. My favorite collection is entitled "Bad Dirt" but "Close Ranger" a close second. They are a part of her Wyoming short stories that is a trilogy, I think. Definitely western stories in setting but themes vary widely.
