I am picking this book as my 500+ page goal. I'll update with my thoughts & review. Anyone want to join me with this one?

I'm about 150 pages in (of 830ish). I'm enjoying it though my eyes have glazed over a couple pages. It's a dense read, for me at least. The book is filled with footnotes elaborating on 'facts' in this fictional world that the characters reference throughout. Many of them have been very entertaining to read, I appreciate that level of detail that the author has given.
I read that one last year, and I absolutely loved it. Once I got used to the footnotes and the writer's style, it got easier to read and much harder to put down!
You are right- once I got used to the style of writing and the use of the footnotes it's flying by. I could not put it down this weekend, the story's getting better by the page.
I'm enjoying this book so much now that I've ordered a set of short stories the same author wrote, set in sort of the same world/time.
Finished, and really enjoyed it. The suspense builds all the way until the end. The book's initial slow pace- with the introductions of the characters, the gist on magic, etc.- does not in any way match the pace of the last half of the book. Recommend to folks who like historical fantasy.
I haven't read it yet but the BBC turned it into a television miniseries so I'm using it for that catagory. It's next on my list
