With her socks and shoes behind her, Sapphire sat on the bank of the beautiful river, feet dangling in the water, and sighed to herself. How she loved the water. Why did her element have to be fire? She selected a lock of her red hair and examined it with her blue eyes. Fiery red hair. . . fire. . . She couldn't help but think they were related. She smoothed her hair back into place with her gentile hands and smiled at the water. Then she remembered a good side to her control of fire.

Sapphire stood up and looked around. All alone. She had traveled farther upriver than usual today, she felt like swimming. Stripping off the rest of her clothes, she jumped into the cold river with a small squeal of delight. This was where fire came in handy, for its heat. While she lay floating on her back, letting the current carry her downstream, she allowed the water around her to heat up, warming the water surrounding her to a comfortable temperature.

"Mmm. . . Fire and water, the perfect combo," she sighed. After allowing the river to carry her for a few minutes, heating up water around her as it came and went, she swam over to the bank and pulled herself out. She warmed the air around her bare body and was dry almost instantly. She walked back to where she'd laid her clothes, and when she got there, took her clothes over to the bank and began washing them in the river. Someday I'll have a small home of my own on a riverbank, she thought. Watching the reflections of the opposite side of the river in the water, she daydreamed as she washed.
