Ron McGaw | 2 comments I'm working on a story set in New York City in 1961, and I need some information about the cost of simple items. Specifically, what did a newspaper cost? What did it cost to take a taxi from Idelwild Airport (now JFK) into midtown? Does anybody know a good website that would give details about the cost of simple items like this from past eras?

Jim (jimmaclachlan) That's interesting. I found these links:

http://www.thepeoplehistory.com/60sel...

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content...

http://www.gti.net/mocolib1/prices/19...

They covers some of what you're asking.

This link doesn't get you a 1960's taxi ride price, but might point you to where you can find it.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) You're welcome, but I didn't do much, just googled about a little. Good luck. Research is tough, but necessary. I hate it when I catch an author in a mistake. It's tough on you guys because a lot of us have pack rat minds.
;)
